I personally believe the design looks just fine and wouldn’t change anything. However, I would recommend looking into SEO’ing up your template a little bit – starting with the <title> tags.

Well, I designed the template for my Fable 2 website while I was still using 1.5, I upgraded to the 2.0.x series with no problems and finally 2.1 and it’s still going strong. I reckon you should be all right, but just make a backup, just to be sure.
