I’ve ran into the same problem. I have a few parent categories that disappeared, and I can’t find the subcategories in the category list in the Post subsection.
Any suggestions?

I am agreeing with Richard – he has thousands of files and needs this flexibility.

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] The images on my posts disappearedI ditto this. What happened?
Go to tools, and choose export.
Export that particular category or date, or whatever is closest to the post you’ve lost.
Then import. It’s also in tools.
You may need to install the wordpress importer, but it’s simple enough.Good luck.

In reply to: URL settingsThat line of code they are calling malware is straight off of www.remarpro.com on how to post by email. No malware. And I have a support ticket on getting rid of that blacklist.
I’ll provide the link for that line of code if you’d like, but there is no malware.
This just happened to me.
Export that category, and then import it.

In reply to: Changed site URL and now cannot access site or admin panelI have done this a couple of times. ??
Login to your server and go to the php database. Go to the phpAdmin (if that’s what you use), and then choose the database you use. It might be “Blog” or something like that.
Look in the wp_options for the fields that you had just changed, and return them to their old settings.
Good luck

In reply to: Posts are now 404'dYes it is, as are all the others. This is what I had to do:
Exporting and re-importing did work. The deleted files had not been permanetly deleted so I didn’t see them in list, but once undeleted did show back up.
That malware place is sketchy in my opinion – but that’s another topic.
A word of advice though: When importing, turn off the “send to facebook/twitter” plugins, or you’re going to send a bunch of old stuff to FB/Twitter! ?? oops.

In reply to: Posts are now 404'dThe so-called malware actually is a line of code from WP for getting emails to post. So that’s not it. And I deleted the line of code just to clear that error issue.
I exported only the affected category, and then deleted only some of the articles in the category. I re-imported the category – and the import showed that the articles already existed (I turned off the cache and deleted the cached filed). I checked – and none of the articles were imported.

In reply to: [Regenerate Thumbnails] [Plugin: Regenerate Thumbnails] Resize errorYes I am sure. The ones you are looking at are recent images. I had to discontinue the use of your plugin due to the errors. And my upload directory has something like 19,000 different sized images, and then mulitples of these different sizes. If there was a way to delete all but the originals and start from scratch I would do it and give the plugin another try.
Any suggestions on how to delete 18,000+ duplicates?
