Curiously enough when I installed it it didn’t work because the URL it creates always fixes to another URL that doesn’t work.

    so
    https://www.beforeiforget.co.uk/wordpress?p=1940&shareadraft=baba1940_49bc49f3b3606
    becomes
    https://www.beforeiforget.co.uk/wordpress/?p=1940&shareadraft=baba1940_49bc49f3b3606

Not the / after the word wordpress in the second URL

My wordpress installation is in a directory called wordpress. Perhaps that is what’s messing stuff up?

So when there was this big fanfare about wordpress 2.7 now handling gravatars, was that all just BS?

If so then I should just stick with the rather flakey ‘Easy Gravatar’ plugin then, right?

It just seems odd because since updating to 2.7 there are now 2 gravatars shoing up in my admin page when I look at comments.

Hi Michael. It would appear to be [slideshow=ID,400,300]

    Check this page out…

    Hope that helps.

I’ll give a shout out to Binasys in the UK.

@ brew13 – I don’t believe I actually linked to the blog that was affected. However, if I did then you’re indeed right, that was wrong and I unreservedly apologize.

It would seem that midphase have now fixed the problem. From what I can figure out from the limited information they have given me, they were hacked by someone who got hold of their list of ftp usernames and passwords.

That seems a little worrying to me, but maybe it can happen. Either way Rachel’s blog seems okay now.

No it was hosted a midphase.

Oh and hey, I’d avoid Midphase hosting too!

Well if they would take down a blog which called President Bush a “horses ass” then I think you have to assume that the use of the word “damn” might trigger some harsh moral judgement.

    Hi Clayton,

Yes you assume correctly about Rachel’s as yet not very used blog.

Just to let you know, the malicious code is also on the default theme too, and I just noticed it in the html of the webalizer pages! Midphase promise they will look into this and, as I reverted to their one button instalation of wordpress which you rightly point out is only very 2.6.1, they will also be doing a system wide update of wordpress too.

My problem is that speaking to their tech support is painful as they seem unable to grasp what is going on. I’m having conversations that go something like this..
MP “So you installed a script and it has a virus?”
Me “No, no. There is a script at the footer of the HTML which appears to be malicious.”
MP. Oh, ok I see now.”
Me. “Great, so what do you suppose I can do about this?”
MP. “Well sir, if you don’t want it you could try uninstalling it.”

When I deleted everything, I used FTP and I blanked the whole lot. I then ran their 1 button install which reinstalled everything from new. My guess at this stage is that this is something at there end.

In the meantime, it’s a long shot, but I poinsed the code that has been added maliciously to the site. I changed the call from ‘function’ to ‘funtoin’. That’s probably a waste of time, but I wondered if maybe this was being added manually and if so then a glance at that probably wouldn’t catch the typo. – Yeah I know, silly idea.

If Midphase don’t get on top of this before the weekend I will tell them we’re moving to a new host.

My only input here is to say that I am disappointed that www.remarpro.com continue to push bluehost when there are much more deserving hosts out there. Sadly though, they can’t cough up the same financial kickbacks as bluehost are able to.

In my case bluehost repeatedly took down my blog for language in my comments that their moral standards officer thought was offensive. Their behaviour was quite unlike any I have ever experienced, and while they were quite charming on the telephone, their repeated removal of my blog on moral grounds was simply unacceptable.

The language involved was no worse than what you would see in any movie or hear on any street, and while certain people here advised that one should only write using words they were comfortable using in the company of prospective in-laws, I decided that I would rather give my money to a host that didn’t believe in imposing strangely old fashioned moral standards over the basic principles of free speech and freedom of expression.

Indeed, Bluehost told me that if I used a blog to suggest that I thought President George Bush was a “horses ass”, this would cause the site to be removed on the grounds of it being offensive. It’s not clear why their CEO’s blog wasn’t then removed when he called Bill Gates a “jackass.”

In their favor, the tech support guy I spoke to in the end did give me a full refund and was very helpful in moving the blog to another host.

Once again though, just to be clear and so as to not ruffle the feathers of those with wonderfully refined moral compasses, the blog comments in question did not use cuss words excessively or in a manner than any ordinary webmaster would feel required an intervention.

If Bluehost are as flakey in their uptime as they are about applying their moral standards then my advice, Adam, is to find another host.

In the words of the wonderful Sarah Palin, tell those boys in Utah “Thanks but no thanks!” ??

So the answer then is to abandon the blog and domain entirely? Oh my word! ??

I’ve experienced much the same problem. I’ve contacted the host Midphase, and they seem about as excited about looking into this as they might be about going for a long walk in the Mojave desert in July.

I’ll download those security scans though and see if I can get to the bottom of this.

A list of preventive measures is long. So I won’t mention them.

…of course not. No sense in doing that while responding to a request for help in a HELP FORUM!

    That made me laugh.

Well the problem is the files will be uploaded to the FTP space 6 times a day by the AP (Associated Press), so that really isn’t practical. ??

After a telephone conversation with someone in the abuse department of Bluehost, my blog has been reinstated. We agreed that one particular comment should be deleted and after that, while they do say that profanity is forbidden anywhere on sites hosted by them, they are willing to ‘turn a blind eye’ in most cases unless an objection is raised.

I should also point out that they have offered to refund me in full and help me move the blog to a more tolerant host.

This is a good outcome, but it I still believe it shouldn’t have come to this. Bluehost enjoy the freedoms afforded to them by a (relatively) free and open society. For them to impose their religious morality upon others is absurd. I will most likely move the blog from Utahistan shortly.

    Thanks Otta, I’ve emailed them.
