Found the solution. If a bbPress forum is set up with visibility set to “Public”, topics included in the forum are posted in the BuddyPress activity feed automatically, despite the protection level established by s2. The topic remains on the feed until an admin removes it. This holds true even if the forum’s visibility setting is changed to Private. However, if the forum is set up as Private, the topics are never posted and thus protected.
