I too would like the same functionality for pages as for posts, i.e. that pages not in the restricted category are hidden and uneditable.
You could either list events alongside the other types of post: https://www.wprecipes.com/how-to-display-custom-post-types-on-your-wordpress-blog-homepage
Or, if the events aren’t exactly the same as a news post, you could link the event to a post using https://www.wprecipes.com/how-to-display-custom-post-types-on-your-wordpress-blog-homepage
