Also I just noticed that the menu is not loading properly if I am using a
custom menu

Ive checked the nav under both 2010 and 2011. It appears under 2011 but not on 2010. Just for reference I am using Chameleon for Elegant Themes.

Well then let me be the second to inform you of a magically disappearing navMenu on the events page.
