Yes I am using index.php – pretty permalinks didn’t work at all without it and it doesn’t bother me having it there.

I worked it out – I changed to a theme that didn’t have a login link from the blog itself, and was following a book that said to login in from url/wp-admin. As soon as I changed to logging in from url/wp-login.php it worked

PS I changed my theme folder back to the correct name and now I can see my blog, but I still can’t log in.
