After some experimenting, it seems the issue is a problem attaching word files. PDF attaches just fine.

Maybe I spoke too soon. Attempting to send a word doc as an attachment seems to temporarily take the entire blog down. Including the html parent site?!?!. The form works fine of you

After a few seconds, both the wordpress and html site are up again.

I was never able to get this to work for a page. Seems to only work for posts. Unfortunately in my case, I don’t use the blog portion of WP. I found a plugin called “Alpine Phototile” that provides a similar effect.

Thanks so much for the reply. This put me on the right track. Turns out it was “widget_nav_menu” instead of “menu-sidebar”. Got it fixed. I also discovered that if I was using the Firefox inspector instead of the one in Chrome, I would have probably found it much sooner.

After spending quite a bit of time on this, and no clear solution, I finally removed ARVE and installed The “Responsive Video” plugin. It worked exactly as expected.

Update:

Just noticed on the plugin page a message about a beta version. Installed it, since mention was made about the Youtube issue. It failed to install with the following message.

Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /public_html/wp-content/plugins/advanced-responsive-video-embedder/admin/class-arve-admin.php on line 724

Rolled back to the current release.

The arc title does look great on larger browsers. If there was a way to either display a smaller version, or even a title without the arc, that would be awesome. Or if I could just turn it off for mobile devices, that would be fine.

I should add that I did run across a related posting from some months ago. It referred to adding code to the functions.php file. I did try this, and in my case, it generated an error and generally breaks the site.

I am not a programmer by any stretch, so no idea if this is due to the theme being different, or the recent WP update.

Yep, that took out the last bit. Makes one wonder why this is not the default. I have definitely noticed that the norm with many of the wordpress themes out there seems to be giant headers and lots of whitespace.
