Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: installing wordpress blog as the root domain? If you are having problems, it might be a good idea to install WordPress using an auto-installer such as Fantastico. Your host will probably provide one.
This gives you the option of either choosing the name of the folder where WordPress will be installed, or leaving it blank to install in the root.
If it is installed in the root, people won’t have to type in yourdomain.com/wordpress.
Hope this helps

In reply to: Category will not deleteIt appears that you can’t add images to posts on this forum.
Not to worry. To create a screenshot, just hit the “PrtScn” button on your keyboard – this saves a screenshot to your clipboard.
In Windows, go to “Start”, then “All Programs”, “Accessories” and finally “Paint”. Press and hold down the “Ctrl” button on your keyboard and press “V” – the screenshot will be pasted into Paint.
In Paint, go to “File” then “Save”. You now have an image of the screenshot saved on your computer.
I’ve created a throwaway e-mail address so you can e-mail me the image: [email protected].

In reply to: So completely lost during installationDreamhost provide a one-click installer for a number of applications, including WordPress.
I’m with another host so I can’t give you the specific steps for Dreamhost, but they should be similar. Basically you just login to your hosting account and find the one-click installer.
Once you have accessed the installer, you select WordPress.
You will then be asked to choose a username and password. You will also be asked to choose the name of the folder where WordPress will be installed (the installer creates this folder for you)
Finally, you are asked for an admin name and an e-mail address.
Hope this helps

In reply to: Category will not deleteJust to be clear:
When you delete a single category you move your cursor over the title of the category, & some options will then appear immediately below the title. These are “Edit”, “Quick Edit” & “Delete”. You then click the “Delete” option.
Is this what you meant when you said you highlighted the name and hit delete ?

In reply to: Category will not deleteIf there is only one category listed then this should be “Uncategorized”, and this can’t be deleted.
I’m a bit confused because you said in your original post that the category you can’t delete is one you created.
Also, I can’t see the folder icon or the words you mention.
It might be easier if you could provide screenshots.

In reply to: Category will not deleteI’ve had a look at your site, but the categories are not showing up.
What are the exact steps you took to delete the category ?
Also, can you list all of your categories & indicate the one you tried to delete & also which one is set as the default.

In reply to: I'm trying very hard not to be rude here!Does your web host provide an application called Fantastico ?
If so, then give it a try – it’s very quick & easy.
With my hosting provider, you just log into your hosting account, then go to Fantastico & select WordPress. All you have to do is choose a username & password, and a folder name (the folder is then created for you). Dead easy.
