I implemented a slightly different method to solve this by displaying bilingual text on the French welcome message, inviting English subscribers to change language in their profile and providing a link. I modified shortcode_view.php so that country_code is the country of billing/shipping, and locale_code is the language to be used on the PayPal checkout page. Works perfectly! Will try to share with plugin developer.

Found additional information on the PayPal developers site:
For country code = CA, there are two locale codes “en_US” and “fr_CA”.
Can we get a new parameter locale_code pleeeeazzzzeeee ?

Ended up switching to a different guestbook plug-in which does not exhibit that problem.

Hi Marcel. A few more questions:
1. I’m not using pretty permalinks, could this be related?
2. Did you run your tests with the Polylang plug-in activated?
3. If not, should I open a new post to Polylang’s support?

Did more testing… all the entries in English do not show the “Thank you” message but all of entries made in French show the confirmation message just fine.

Done, it’s Polylang that has the conflict. When it’s desactivated, I get the “Thank you” message every time. I really need it to manage my bilingual content. I did try another popular plug-in before but that one had a conflict with my theme. Any suggestions?

Took me 2 minutes…
downloaded and installed POEdit
edited the fr_FR.po file for my theme, saved it which generated the .mo file.
Blog now shows the correct translation.

Thanks for the offer, I posted a support request… just waiting on an answer.

Another question for you. One of the Blog functions is translated as “Laisser un réponse” in French. It’s really minor but the correct translation is “Laisser une réponse”. Can I do a search & replace somewhere?

One additional piece of information: I just noticed that the preview displayed in Appearance…Customize works perfectly! If I switch language, the slider title and text switches as well.
Looks like it’s only when I access the published site that the function doesn’t work. Guess I should post a question to the Theme provider, right ?
