Hey, do you accept marriage proposals from broke college kids who are too young for you?
    (just kidding)

I have chronic redesignitis. Skinning helps, but occasionally I decide I hate all my current skins, and then I wipe everything out and start again.

edit: I meant irritating, not interesting. spam bots aren’t interesting, they’re irritating!

what? has no one responded to dougal? :p
The war on spam blog seems very interesting! One to bookmark! I never knew that there was that much depth to spam. The common impression just seems to be that there are spam bots, and that they are interesting. Your blog is very enlightening!

Yeah… writing about you/your stuff is always kinda awkward.
Anyway, I interesting blog! I like how you combine everything from various parts of your life (design, general stuff, etc.) Oh, and it’s pretty too! ??

If you’re the only person posting, this wouldn’t be an issue though, would it?

I’ve been looking for something like this, but have always been worried about the security issues. But, not knowing all that much about security, all I’ve ever been told is “it’s not secure” and never why it’s not secure.
So, could you tell us why your hack is secure, and what makes using php regularly not secure? (for my own enlightenment).

Did you try changing your blog title under “options” ?

Take a look at your index.php file. At the top, it has a php function with the comment “//do not remove this.”
put that before your doctype and html tags on your static page. You might need to edit the path to the file, if it’s outside the wp directory, but other than that, it should work.

for registering, I think the best, from what I’ve heard is godaddy.com
they’re cheap, and reliable (from what i’ve heard).
for hosting siteflip (what I’m hosted on) is really cheap, and I haven’t had any problems yet. They’ve always responded to help desk tickets very quickly.
also lunarpages is pretty good too, as is netrillium.
    places to avoid:
    spyderhosts
    cyberpixels
    burlee
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about them. Of course, I could be wrong.

To add another point… I decided to use wordpress because MT was too confusing, bulky, and crappy in general.
Wordpress is not an “elite” tool. It’s the easiest to use, and most powerful blogging tool that I have ever used, and I’ve used a lot. It literally takes 5 minutes to install the thing. compare that to tearing your hair out over the huge mess that is installing MT.
The tags are simple, and easy to understand, unlike MT tags. Calling the links outputs a beautiful list of links, which you can style any way you want. What’s there not to like?

Yes, the lack of multiple blog support, was probably among one of my top concerns, when I decided to use WP. Right now, I have three versions of WordPress running on one domain, and also three MySql databases. eek.
Wordpress makes up for it by being easy to use, streamlined, and fast-loading, and just wonderful in general, however, this is probably one of the top features that I would like to see in the future.

This is a great hack, but I have an itsy bitsy question.
How much does/would Amazon like this? At this point, I’m sure they don’t really care, and I’m also sure that they have so much bandwidth that a couple wordpress users don’t bother them at all.
But morally/ethically/whatever, how good of an idea is it to be hotlinking images off of Amazon? I loathe it when people hotlink off of me (why I have it turned off), but I think a big part of that is I don’t have much bandwidth to begin with.
So, I guess my question is, would Amazon get really pissy about this hack hotlinking their images?

    yeah, I agree.
this is not meant to give the poor dev’s more work. They should be doing what they do best- developing wordpress. However, knowing what’s a good blog can be judged by people who know little about php or mysql if necessary
