the reason for such stripes are usually style conflicts with a WP Theme. To solve it a page running with this WP Theme (incl. an OSM map) needs to be posted. After we analysed it we can provide a Betaversion at wp-osm-plugin.HanBlog.net to verify the fix on your site.

A: YES. You just have to install the plugin and you even need not to open the settings page.

A: You get this error in the backend at option page, isn,t it? Did you try to enter a zoomlevel (eg. 9) and save it. This zoomlevel does not influence the maps generated by shortcodes.

the zoomlevel on the option page is not used for standard shortcodes but only if you use the tag in template. I guess these are two different reasons. Even if there is an error in your option page the shortcodes should work. Can you reduce the “advanced options” step by step to see which argument causes the problem. I tried your shortcode and it worked fine.

using GPX-files has got the big advantage of combining this plugin with other geo-plugins, like the WordPress OpenStreetMap plugin.

Probably there is a “style conflict” between your WP-Theme and the OpenLayers popup. Posting a link to your blog with this issue is simplifying to find a solution with Firebug.
