Many thanks for that. If I get the chance to troubleshoot the errors I will post here. Having found a work around I dont expect to confront this problem again in the near future.
For what it is worth – I solved the problem by creating a new Simply Gallery and loading only the offending approx 30 images
I was able to add and delete tags in this gallery and then I found all the tags had been corrected upon returning to the above mentioned original gallery (which would not let me edit tags in)
I am still interested in what might have gone on in relation to the failure to tag edit from that gallery

In reply to: How can I specify more than 100 items in ‘latest posts’thanks for the reply
I tried to find pre_get_posts in the function.php file in wp-content/themes (this is 2024) but nothing like that is in that file
Where else might I find it? – thanks
According to google appearance should have a Theme File Editor – but I does not in my dashboard

that is fabulous
I duplicated all the settings I had in my previous masonry block and can proceed with external links in the image title
– thanks for the help
wow – thank you – saved hours of my life
I had imagined that there was an option to do this somewhere
Through trial and error I resolved my problem by checking templates till I found one which was attached to posts entries by default.
Thanks for that
I am way too uneducated to read/understand/edit the wp-config.php. My ISP kindly effected appropriate changes permitting me log into the old folder and export the posts.
Here is another approach – not sure if this will work
The semi corrupted WP install was in a folder called /blog
I have a brand new WP install in a folder called /w
If I temporarily swap names (assuming I have permissions on the server to do that) – would I go to https://philipchudy.com/w/wp-admin/index.php and find that I have nominal access to that old database – such that I would be able to backup the files in the prescribed useful manner?
Thanks for that – but the old install of WP was corrupt and cannot be revisited (I dont think).
So I don’t think I can use cpanel or phpmy admin or any other tools one would use – when actually logged into a functioning install
I had no choice but copy the entire old and not totally functional WP installation to my local hard drive where it just sits as myriads of files in their original locations. And I left a copy of that folder on the server in a folder with a different name than the current fresh WP install.
Is there any way of manually extracting data or populating the new install database folders with the old content? I am afraid that there may be absolute links in the database but if they are relative – am guessing that it might just work
I have another url which has a non used WP install – could I perchance just copy the whole former contents into that domain’s WP folder and get that to fire up the former WP install in a dashboard ?
… or any other advice
thanks
I was talked into letting the iSP making a brand new install or WP – which incidentally ended up a many hours long disaster. So the above question is not worth bothering with – will start a new topic to try deal with new challenges
Seems to work fine with the new files – tried on 3 computers and all reached the site with no problem
I doubt if Avast is that fast in rebranding a file but just to mention:
I downloaded ORIGINAL JS file (to have it as backup) Avast flagged it as positive – I had to report the download as false positive (and then extract it out of my vault). It said that it was sending the offending file to Avast for their inspection. Unlikely that inspection occurred, new analysis happened and their database updated and greenlighted the orig files (and the new ones ) in the 5 mins before I got to try website again
Well others who did not change to the new files can test and see if the warning has gone
I also reported it 2 days ago and gave them a link to this thread to witness that is a wider issue
I said without checking this – that I thought that the software did not get updated in the what for me is the last few days since it started to happen. Avast might have updated itself during that time

In reply to: [Twenty Twenty-Three] Blog not working – what did I mess up?thank you for your help
Good idea – I will try turning off the other plugins and then see if I can assign the other templates and have them actually operate than just be listed.
Another thing which just came to mind. It could be that I made a false assumption that an it would choose a jepg as featured image – merely on the basis of there actually was a jpeg in the body of the post.
If the featured image ‘has to be loaded manually’ in the editor, it could be that all my nested featured image blocks are empty because I never did the above
will report back when I have a moment to play
Reporting a bit of progress – clumsy albeit
I worked on my post template and changed the title of the post to a link (courtesy of settings menu).
So although https://peachesincrime.com/blog presents all the blog entries in one URL (the former), now – if I or anyone clicks the post title it reopens in a linear (next prev) form and the individual post url is now unique to that post (ie https://peachesincrime.com/lamborghini-suv-in-fantasy-environment/ )
Not much expertise involved in my clumsy workaround but it does mean I can now find the link to an individual post and share that .
