Thank you keesiemeijer for the suggestions. The “Save with keyboard” plugin does exactly what it says it does with WordPress 4.2.1.
CTRL + S clicks the Publish/Update button on a PC.
Cmd + S on Mac.
I recommend this plugin to Alastair L and to anyone else who ran into this problem with the 4.2 update.
