  • This solved the problem for me:

Instead of logging in at https://www.mysite.com/wp-admin
    I signed in with:
    https://www.mysite.com/wp-login.php

Don’t know why that solved the problem, but it did. Hope it works for you.

Have the identical problem, using both Chrome and Firefox. My WP site is hosted at GoDaddy, but I have many others also hosted there without any problem.

There’s a good number of people with the same problem, all posting different threads. You can find a bunch of them here.

WordPress forum helpers: If you type “password every login” into the search box above, you’ll get a page of results of others with the same problem. Please help us.

I have the identical problem as, it seems, a lot of folks do. Here are the specific details, in case it helps to diagnose the problem.

When I type in my username, the WP admin box retains/holds my input — that is, the letters I type stay typed in the box. When I type in my password, as soon as I hit “enter,” the password box is cleared of all typing and remains empty. My username remains typed. I retry entering my password in the password box by copy/paste from my password log, to ensure the problem isn’t a typo. The first and second such attempts usually draw no error message, but error messages usually pop up after that. I try older passwords in case they might be “stuck” as the real password, but they don’t work either. Those old password entries always draw error messages.

To enter my site, I have to choose “forgot password,” and then follow the email password-reset process. The “new password” entry box allows me to type either a new password; but it also allows me to type in (what I think of as) my existing password, which it accepts as the “new” password. This suggests to me that whatever part of WP programming is supposed to remember my password, doesn’t.

The new password will allow me to access the admin panel for one working session. But, once I sign out or close out, every time I want to access my site admin again, I have to repeat this process.

I also entered my password on the profile page of the site, but there was no change in this behavior.

Based on the number of people who have this issue, this really seems like a bug rather than operator error. I hope this description helps someone to find a solution.

My site is hosted at GoDaddy, but I’ve hosted plenty of WP sites there and have never had this problem with any of them. The theme template I’m using is from Elegant Themes, but their forum advisor says this is a WP glitch, not a theme bug. Based on the lack of similar comments there, and the number of similar comments on this forum, that would appear to be likely.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need other information.
