  • I have the same problem. Tried deactivating plugins, tried different themes. Neither made a difference. Tried the temporary fix of clicking Update on the picture, which worked temporarily, but reverted when I saved the whole post.

Glad I don’t have a more serious problem that is shutting down my entire site, but I’d really like to get back to normal.

Thanks, WPRanger, the people in that thread are talking about my identical problem, and there is a suggestion for a temporary fix. Click on edit, then update (without fixing anything else.)However, that only works until you save the post, and then it reverts to the extra wide gray space with a “lost” picture somewhere in there.
Apparently a fix for the bug is on the way.

Thanks all, and I’m sorry I am slow to reply. Been so busy fixing the blog that I forgot to come back after I discovered my dumb mistake. Put some wrong code in. I’ll learn eventually.

Well, I solved it myself by backing up, and then removing each post and page that had been loaded to the new location. That apparently gave WordPress peace of mind, and when I clicked on import again, it actually did import everything.

Hope this will help someone some time, since nobody seemed to have any advice on it.

You obviously are more advanced than I am, but I just had a similar problem, and it was solved by moving screenshot.png from the images file to the main folder of the theme.

I just heard from a friend, that I might not have continued to push the import button at the bottom of each page of uploading files when I exported. So it probably was my own stupid mistake.

But I still need to know how to recover.

    Thanks.

The first time? No error message. The re-try today, I explained above “Are you sure you want to do this?” but no explanation.

Thanks, Justin and everyone else who tried to help.
I had tried recreating the WP database before I read this, but that didn’t work either. Then I discovered it was a really simple solution. I should have been going directly to atravelerslibrary.com/wp-admin (instead of without the wp-admin) and signing in with the user name and password I had created rather than following the instructions in the e-mail sent form WP. Thanks to a helpful person at Go Daddy, I resolved a problem that actually seems to have been caused by WordPress. Now I have another problem–another thread.

You may be running into the same problem I did yesterday. WP e-mailed me a user name “admin” and password, but they did not work. After a lost day, someone at Go Daddy (my host) suggested that I use the admin name and password that I had created during the process, and instead of just directly to the address, go to (in your case) https://www.westchesterdaddy.com/wp-admin

Since you’re on a different host, it may not work the same, but I hope this can save you the frustration I had.

Now I’m in even bigger trouble. I started working my way through the suggestions. Had already tried both caps and lower case–wouldn’t accept user name. So I removed entire content I had exported from WP.com to my computer and uploaded to GoDaddy and uploaded it again. Then when I tried to log in I got this message Warning: main(/home/content/v/e/r/veramarie/html/atravelerslibrary//wp-includes/classes.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/v/e/r/veramarie/html/atravelerslibrary/wp-load.php on line 43

Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required ‘/home/content/v/e/r/veramarie/html/atravelerslibrary//wp-includes/classes.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/content/v/e/r/veramarie/html/atravelerslibrary/wp-load.php on line 43

I am not too concerned about the password, what concerns me is that it would not accept “admin” and now it says there is no wp-load.php

I can’t alter code manually to cahnge username since I haven’t been able to access the blog at the new wp.org to import my data to it, and can’t get into it when it won’t accept user name of admin. Going in circles.
