Can you suggest any resources to learn this? surely it would save me money as I wouldn’t need to pay for hosting – am I right in thinking this?

I was under the impression I could host my website myself using MAMP and setting my computer up as a local host. Does this mean I can’t and I need a hosting package as well as domain? I have registered a domain yes.

I don’t actually have a website yet, I set my computer up to be a local host and I was originally inserting the slider code <?php if (function_exists(‘nivoslider4wp_show’)) { nivoslider4wp_show(); } ?> into a parent theme before I knew about child themes.

I created a child theme of target to mess around with and I created a new functions php file and inserted the code above and the slider appears but at the top of my page and I don’t know how to move it to where the old slider was or how to remove the old one.

I used the nivo slider with the target theme. I just need it on my homepage to replace the not moving slider..?

Yes, I’m trying to throw myself in and create a child theme, I have read tuns and tuns of articles etc to try and pick it up but I usually learn by doing.. !?

So how do I make a complete copy of a theme? Does this mean that if people view the source of my website they won’t be able to see I have copied a theme so it will be like pretty much creating my own template, re-naming it and using it to do whatever I want? For example.. if I was to copy a template and then edit it changing the footer/header etc but just using the original template as a framework, could I create something completely new that can be used as a fresh template for someone to access through admin and simply drop in text/photos?

You mentioned Forking a theme.. can you offer advice on what you mean or where I can find out more?
