I had the spinning wheel problem on my WP 4.9.6 site and I’m using the Salient Theme.
After checking I discovered that the wrong editor plugin was active. With Salient there can be confusion between WP Bakery Visual composer and Salient Visual composer , both seem to be of similar origin. Disabling WP Bakery and activating Salient Visual Composer fixed the problem. Its not clear to me how a visual editor can completely block the site from rendering.

I agree that country blocking would be best in my case, these countries are indeed the usual suspects. France is a more complex case because legitimate traffic also comes from there. Selective blocking using a filter detecting “wp-login” attempts combined with a white list might be a solution.

Thanks a lot for your comments. Yes I use strong passwords, so no harm done yet and instead of trying to whack-a-mole I start blocking the whole subnet, that’s radical and might block some legitimate users but its safer. KR

I have a similar entry which was whitelisted while in learning mode. It comes from some IP address in Paris, is this a hacking attempt ?.
I’m also constantly getting readme.html and wp-config-sample.php change warnings,putting them back to the originals and getting that warning again a few days later. I’v now deleted these .Can’t see who changed the files however.Would it be a related hacking attempt ?

I have the same problem on one of my sites. On the other sites Sucuri scanner works fine, justnot on that one WP 4.6.1 FR site with Sucuri Scanner 1.8.3 . I also have another problem UpdraftPlus backups, pressing the backup button doesn’t do anything. I very recently did a complete re-install and restore of my site. The site itself is working fine. When I run Test API Calls, nothing happens , I go back to the top of the Dashboard. Any suggestion on what I should do to fix it ? Thanks
