In reply to: Plugin update error messageThanks Marventus,
I will try what you suggest after my clients evaluate the site (they know its in Alpha at the moment). I had thought perhaps since the message is clearly generic to WP that it might be the result of a flag that could simply be reset. The simple link I have created does two things:
1. Takes Guests to the WordPress Login form which is ok – I can word the link appropriately; and
2. Takes logged in users to the “Insert New Event” form in the Dashboard – which is also fine.It would be cool if I could use the correct link to take users to the “Add New Event” form in their profile instead, and avoid the Dashboard. In fact I am hoping to avoid the Dashboard for all users up to and including author level for all functions in the site.

In reply to: New Post button?I am allowing all members to post (specialised) blog posts.
Is there any way I can get an “Add New” button at the top of my blog page. Intuitively this is where most of my members would expect to find it – rather than in the “Admin” bar (which implies being an admin to post.W3Schools.com has a Java Script tutorial that might give you some background

In reply to: Error establishing a database connectionThank you!
That does work.
I have spent three days learning a few ‘extra’ things along the way.I shall now review the WordPress instructions to see if I missed it.
Once again thank you very much.
I now have two users with the same name but at least WordPress is now installed.

In reply to: Error establishing a database connectionThanks!
The MySQL server is certainly running according to the XAMPP control centre and I can access my Moodle database satisfactorily. Are you suggesting I install WordPress using the root user rather than the user I have created?
If so I assume I change the username in the wp-config.php file to ‘root’ and leave the password blank.I do notice that the host for my ‘wordpress’ username is % but I assumed (from the instructions) that the correct hostname in the wp-config.php file is still ‘localhost’
What are the consequences of choosing ‘root’ as the user?
Does this mean I shall have to do everything in WordPress as ‘root’?Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Installing WordPress in its own subdirectoryThank you I shall prepare a separate post with the installation issues if my next attempt still fails.

In reply to: Install on local PCWhy is it appropriate to retain the wp-config-sample.php file when the instructions specifically say to rename it as wp-config.php in order to do the installation?
