At the moment the best way for the customer in your example to downgrade to Free would be to abandon their current subscription and select the Free subscription plan from the list that can be displayed using the [pms-subscriptions] shortcode.

I have added a downgrade option in the Account form to our Requested Features list, and we have had a number of similar requests from other users so it may be implemented in a future version, but I cannot estimate when that may be.

Unfortunately an automatic downgrade to the FREE subscription is not possible. You can use the [pms-subscriptions] shortcode to display the subscription plans to your users and allow them to choose the Free one.

As for the Abandon option, it cannot be removed but you can hide it with CSS.

Unfortunately I do not know of any plugins that will do what you need. I have consulted our development team and if you were to attempt to do this yourself they recommend you check out the wp insert term function.

This issue is most likely caused by Jetpack.

To fix it please go to Jetpack -> Settings -> Security and in the ‘Brute force attack protection’ section disable the ‘Block suspicious-looking sign in activity’ option.
