I contacted the host provider and changed the permissions. I have it working again and wordfence updated successfully. The issue is now resolved.

Thanks very much for your detailed reply. I expect to have the local website readdy in about a week. The existing live website is not wordpress. I’ll follow through the steps and have done some migration as part of a UDEMY course so hopefully all will work.

I solved the issue. I had ticked by mistake the checkbox “Disable Visual Editor When Writing” under Users>Profile.I wont forget that one, it took me hours to spot it. Thanks for replying.

Thanks for the info. However, this is about switching from one editor to another i.e. Gutenberg to Classic or visa versa. My problem is that neither editor is working and for some reason when I open any page in edit view I am faced with html code and cant go to the visual editor.
