  • This plugin has performed really, really well for over 5 years on our site right up to the point where I updated the php to 8.1. It was a wrong move! Wiped us right out. To be sure wp-members plugins are not the only culprits involved. I got all plugins deactivated and have been working through the list to restore functionality. So far wp-members and about 5 other wp-members related plugins all seem to cause things to lock up. Interestingly, the mailChimp integration does not seem to have issues. I notice 3.5 is not yet on offer. Is it likely the update will cure whatever is not working?

The plugin is showing not tested for 6.3 but gave it a try. Creating child theme then attempting to add a local font brings in the new font but in the process removes all the ones that came with the theme. Tried with TT3 and TT2. Tried manually copying in the font folders. Turned off the few plugins that came with a softaculous install. Still no fonts. This was my first foray into the new “block” world and it has been bruising. Ten minutes of work turned into a whole day and noting useable resulted. There are hints of greatness here though. Wondering out loud if it wouldn’t be better to just clone a 5 year old site and edit it to create the new.

I can confirm that my pro addons are not still valid. Perhaps someone can enlighten on whether use of a paid product is permissible after the license period? I thought it was with the understanding that updates and user support services stopped. And I thought it might be reasonable to expect that the product would not go belly up for older versions every other year or so. I certainly would consider this when purchasing licenses for my non-profit organizations sites…. they really cannot afford annual fees for the half dozen or so plugins they would like to use to do things like calendars and managing user memberships. If we were constantly changing how we used the plugins and reaching out for support I could understand but we basically set up our calendars in late 2015 and have perhaps made one change since and we have not used user support except when the plugin quit working and an upgrade was used to fix it.

I am seeing a very similar problem… cannot add detail to timing etc but can indicate that the issue is beyond the few posting. The error is removed by deactivating the Google Pro addon

    WordPress version 5.7.1
Current theme: Child of Vantage Premium (version )
Current plugin: Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Pro Add-on (version 1.0.5)
    PHP version 7.4.18

Add Google Calendar events to your WordPress site in minutes. Beautiful calendar displays. Fully responsive.
Version 3.1.31 | By Simple Calendar | View details

This plugin failed to load properly and is paused during recovery mode.

An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 14 of the file /home1/gardenoaks/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/vendor/google/apiclient/src/Google/autoload.php. Error message: Uncaught Exception: This library must be installed via composer or by downloading the full package. I am getting this error and my version is 3.1.31. Advice in this thread to update to an older version seems weird.

I have disabled the plugin and got my site back up. Need a better answer than:
Version 3.1.29 is out and should not give you the fatal error now.

Thanks so much! That was the problem.

More info… WordPress has sent a message about the 5.2 update and a second message about automatic detection and notification of a fatal error. The back door to get into admin at first yielded the same type of error messages but within a few minutes loaded properly and I was able to deactivate the Simple Calendar plugin and my site is back on line. Giant sigh of relief.

Hope the issue with the plugin resolves… love the tool!

I may be having this error as well… entire site is crashed. Sucuri monitors and protects my website but they have yet to come up with the issue.
Here is error message that repeats on 4 pages:

    https://gardenoaks.org/
    https://gardenoaks.org/404testpage4525d2fdc
    https://gardenoaks.org/404javascript.js
    https://gardenoaks.org/404javascript.js

<b>Warning</b>: require(/home1/gardenoaks/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/vendor/composer/../react/promise/src/functions_include.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in <b>/home1/gardenoaks/public_html/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/vendor/composer/autoload_real.php</b> on line <b>66</b><br />

The other odd thing is that the site is https

Any chance of a quick fix… like go in with ftp and delete some files? I don’t care if our calendar is out of commission for a few days… what is not tolerable is to have this killing the entire site.

Thanks for the quick response. Things are back working now but I am not sure it was because I followed the steps. I took a shortcut and used cPanel to change the directory name for participants-database. I got interrupted and when I came back, the version of PD was 1.7.9.1, the directory name was back to the original and everything was working fine. My cat is not good with the keyboard so I doubt she fixed it. This was pretty strange. It is really good to know how to get back into a site when any plug-in takes it down. A good experience. Thanks!

I built a Participants Database on one site and then moved it to deploy it. Same host but different owners. Both were working fine. The test version is still working but the operations version is down and gives the same Fatal error of the original poster:
Fatal error: Can’t use method return value in write context in /home4/jasperx/public_html/GOMO/wp-content/plugins/participants-database/classes/PDb_FormElement.class.php on line 253

The broken version was the working version that actually had captured some participants. It is located here:
https://gobigdig.com/GOMO/ With this error I cannot get to the site to make any changes or look at the configuration.

The version which was my trial setup still is working and is located here:
    pledge.gardenoaks.org
If nothing else, I would like to retrieve the good data from the one that broke.

I did go back and try installing in a new wordpress installation on a sub-domain. That also failed. That subdomain had very few plugins and no caching. I found the error logs and would be happy to email them to you if you are interested.

Thanks so much for so promptly attempting to assist. I started over with a second fresh wordpress install and got the participants plugin configured and working perfectly. This does not rule out a user error but it seems more likely that there is a conflict with another plugin on my main site. Since the pledge drive we are building is relatively ephemeral I am probably going to keep it on the new second site and link to it. Thanks again.

I do have wp supercache and I tried adding the page name in settings with no effect.
I have checked error logs at host… nothing…. permissions… nothing
Today if I am logged out as admin the page with the signup and list did load. If I enter required info in the signup and submit the 500 error is generated. If I am logged in as admin wp-users, the page will not load. Later when not logged in the page loads with the various parts of the page repeating down the page. Clearing cache manually, logging in and out does not clear the scrambled page. I have made minor edits to the page saved and the page still loads a mangled version. I have screenshots which show the issue.

Odd that no fix is posted. I am getting the same problem. Using same computer on same network moments apart, I can upload one pdf but not another. Making minor changes to the file and file name do not work. These are pdf made from excel spreadsheets a few pages long. Nothing remarkable. Both files made on same computer running same Excel and save to pdf in same way. Because I can upload other files it is definitely not an issue with my network. It is something about the pdf and wordpress and it is very frustrating.
