The issue seems to be resolved now, so posting the solution here if anyone is in a similar situation.

The problem was with the cache stored at the host server. The server team could eventually figure this out, with the consequence that the website is now updated.

I wonder whether this is more indicative of a deeper problem.

I noticed that the Mailing List page wasn’t working, so deleted the entire page, & created a new one. It isn’t turning up and the website still has the old link.

I have cleared all kinds of cache (on browsers & the WordPress one.

Yes, it is ON/ticked in the settings page, wpfundi.
