In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Event Calendar break-down – urgent! With a little help from GoDaddy, where they actually DO believe in real service I was able to do what was mentioned in another post of someone who ran into the same trouble.
The think that F…ed up the Calendar was your own option to allow the Gutenberg Block for events. This throws off ALL the content and it looks ugly as hell. I would say that it was not a matter of conflicting plugins or incompatible version, none of that.
It have me a three day heartburn and I am NOT happy with YOUR service level.I have everything back to where it was and I will now start looking for another plugin that allows importing by CSV. Because that is the only thing that keeps me in this plugin. I am normally a pretty even keeled person but this issue here, and the NONE support I got really did not make me very happy. Especially now that I understand that it is one of your own setting options that blew the whole thing.
For those out there who are like me, building websites without being a total expert (I build databases for a living, but this is my first web project). here is what helped me.
In my WordPress CPanel I was guided to the FIleManager. With that I was able to go to the WP-contents folder and in that I found the offending Event Calendar folder that was causing the harm and prevented me from even reinstalling the plugin. I deleted it. Permanently. Then I was able to reinstall the plugin, found the calendar pages still looked horrible and then tried if the block toggle made a difference. It made a HUGE difference. I hope this helps others in similar situations. At least there is SOME help there for them now.
Thanks but no thanks, Event Calendar plugin people.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] calendar deactivationI just talked to my hosting provider and this will run into a lot of cost because I don’t know how to do it and am hesitant to do it in a live site.
Now here is the thing:
I have a staging site with the exact same platform and plugins as on the live site and the Calendar works well there. My provider tells me your plugin is not compatible with PHP 7.I would very much appreciate any help!

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] calendar deactivationHow do I do that when I have a page hosted at GoDaddy with WordPress?
You are speaking gobbledeegook to me. Can I find this from the WordPress dashboard?Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Event Calendar break-down – urgent! So now I cannot even reinstall the plugin anymore. It says that the destination folder already exists. Which means that I have lost not just event functionality, I also lost my events. Do I really have to be a paying customer to get a response from any of the Helpdeskers? Please help me. I need to at least be able to get the old version back. I tried. It installed perfectly on my staging site (same plugins, same theme) but it will not work on my live site and this means that I loose an important piece of functionality. I will have no option but to look for another tool. But I will make it known how bad your service is. If you wish to not give support unless the tool is paid, you should not offer a free version. The free version should function. I am very disappointed. I created this website as a pro bono project for an organisation that does a lot of good works. And now the list of events is stalled. Thank you for that. Not.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Event Calendar break-down – urgent! Thanks for your feedback, Cannot say it makes sense to me.
I did decide to do the upgrade to see if the way the Calendar looks got better. It did not. I do not like at all that you have a free version of this product out there and give so little support. Good support for free versions usually leads to people buying your product. If I interpret what you are saying the concerns I have about how the event description looks in the detail view will not change when I go Pro. That disappoints me a lot.
I don’t do complicated things with this calendar. I show an event, usually with a flyer and it seems like it is not to much to ask that the description, which look OK in listview, looks the same in details view. Why is that not the case? The text has poor line spacing.
And then this also still does not fix the other items, that have nothing to do with your recent update. I re-installed the product from scratch, on a staging site. It looked fine there. I did it first with the Twenty Nineteen theme: still looked fine. Then reverted the theme I have on the other site: looked fine. But I cannot get it to look the same there. I added the plugins on the staging site one by one and did not see a crash anywhere. But on the other site, with the same setup, it looks horrible.
So I would like to strongly request that you answer the following to help me:
-How to influence what the details page looks like?
-When I add a co-block with a file link, prevent the name of the document I am adding to be auto-glued to the description, which is in its own text block.
-Get back my Maps (will look into that API key, which was in fact suggested by the plugin’s own page.It is simple: if you will help me with this and show that it can look good, I WILL buy the PRO version. But I cannot spend that money on it when the above does not get better.
Please help me with this. It would show how seriously you take having your product look good for all customers, whethe paying or not. Nobody pays for a product where 1) service is withheld until you pay while at the same time 2) telling me that the pro producs looks equally bad in details view.

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Event Calendar break-down – urgent! If anyone from the plugin support team could reach out per phone, that might make things easier to explain.
The events on the page now look good but I had to jump through many hoops to get there. Adding space around the download link of the flyer, adding unnecessary text so that the name of the download document is not added to the description field (without space)…
Please fix this or else tell me in simple terms what I can do to fix it myself. And WHY is the map no longer working? I got an API key from Google as instructed, but it does not fix anything. There is a link to maps shown now, so OK, people can use that. But it was so much better before. How do I roll back to the old Calendar?
Once more: HELP!

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Meetings page not found – Urgent!Oh, and another thing that came to mind:
if you are changing back to an existing site, you will find that a lot of the Google-stored and individual computer-stored links to your site will end up in a ‘nothing found’ page on your new site. Found an excellent plugin for that as well: Redirecting.
You can enter the old page addresses and refer to your new site.
Hope this helps someone!Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Meetings page not found – Urgent!I just wanted to chime in, even though this has been resolve, because the same thing happened to me. If this happens to others: I found a plugin that can do a find and replace. So if you find the name of the temporary site and replace it with the correct one, most of the issues are solved. Additionally, double-check links on WordPress pages to file links. These were the only ones that seemed not to react to the find and replace. It saved my Bhind….

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsOK, I have fixed it without too much trouble.
I created a new bogus meeting.
Then checked and was able to go into the details of that meeting.
And then all other meetings worked too. So the site address must be something of a global value that populates for all other meetings, once it is used the first time. What a relief! Also, a bit off topic, but there are small free plugins that will do a search and replace when you ever change domain names. It worked for most of the other content.

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsAll the links in general are OK. And when I am editing a meeting from the edit mode page and then go to preview, it displayes the meeting. But it does not when I click a meeting on the actual site from the list. I feel that you should be able to point me somewhere to fix this. I can’t be the only one who creates a new website and implements from a site address with a different name. Would reimporting the meetings fix this, in other words: is the URL connected at the moment of import or by teh site. Would reinstalling the plugin help?

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsWe started to do the DNS change to make the draft site the real one.
I now have an issue with the meetings.
They show up but they I want to click to go to detail view, i get an error page.
It seems like it links to the address that was used in the draft site and I do not see how to change this. Looked in the settings, cannot find it.How do I solve this as this means I cannot open the site up for general access yet without Detailed view.

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsOK, I understand that. And sorry for my weird typo, I think I meant ‘inclined’ instead of ‘included’ where I mention the PDF creator.
My own database is in fact relational and most entities we call groups have only one location and as such one meeting and these are usually in the same venues. So I have less groups than meetings and less venues than meetings because I keep them in their own tables. But luckily I can output these data in whatever format is needed.
I just repeated the group name in both the ‘name’ and the ‘group’ column and the page looks really good now. Very thankful to this being made available to us as a plugin. Great work!
Can you provide me with a private email location for the 61 postal codes and venues that deviate from what people believe to be correct? I am bound by confidentiality principles and cannot share them publicly as you will probably understand.
Thanks!

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsUnfortunately the upload instructions do not work for me. I am doing this not for an AA group but for an Al-Anon area so maybe there is that much difference between the two interfaces?
So here is what I figured out which might be helpful to others:
in the import.csv a distinction is apparently made between a MEETING name and a GROUP name. And the District is applied to the GROUP rather than the MEETING.
There is, as far as I have tried, no way to build a list of districts with the longer description. This might not be relevant to AA but it is to my area. I only have 30 districts, so I can add that once for each but it would be nice to have the option of including it in the import in the case I have to do a big batch upload like the one I did today. My upload now works very well and I have revealed both the District filter and the Types filter. I like how things look in the detailed view as well.
I did go forward and manually checked all 304 of our venue locations’ postal code.
61 of them were different in the Google Maps detailed view from the addressed, vetted and checked, from the groups/meetings. That is one fifth. I will just let this go for now and see who spots it and then I will ask them to find out where their group postal code came from. The Maps do not accept them, change them in something else, but do show the proper location. Sometimes even by omitting the last 3 positions of the postal code.It is still a bit weird to me. I am logging the addresses so if you need to have them with both postal codes to see if you can do something about these descrepancies that would be wonderful.
I am also included to, in future, see if I can work better with the PDF generator. Right now my lists come from my own database and maybe I will keep doing that. But the PDF Creator has perspective. But that will be for after the launch of the website.
Signing off now on yet another pre-launch exhaustive day. Tomorrow I take the day off and Thursday we are on for the launch.

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsOK. Let’s wait and see how many will come up wrong.
I understand what you are saying. We had one in a small village and the only way to get it right was adding the name of a slightly bigger village that the other one apparently belonged to. Although I do not know that location myself, in detailed view it did look right because we saw the name of the venue building.I will keep you posted. This will not be a District or Group site. This is an Area site with over 300 meetings, so as such the interface and the PDF Generator might not do what we want it to do and because of that we upload new District list whenever there is a revision in a group, for that District. I am hoping that there will be a better PDF Generator, one that we can have more influence on AND that can run on the found set in the meeting viewer. Is that anywhere on your list?

In reply to: [12 Step Meeting List] Importing regions and districtsThank you for testing.
I do have all that information but it was not clear to me that the order of the worksheet example was important. As there is no way to check how the incoming data are mapped to the meeting data it is a bit of a blind alley. This might be worth noting on the example sheet. I will try again.I have one more issue that makes me a bit nervous.
I have had all entries on my site (300 plus…) checked and today some came back with corrections on the postal codes. When I double checked on the website, it turned out that that Mapbox map sometimes will not accept what groups know to be the correct zipcode for a venue. This might mean that I have to do a manual check and since there is no way to navigate, when in the complete list of meetings, from one to the other from the details view, this may be a full day of work and a true headache for me.So, two requests:
please, if at all possible, when in edit mode, give us the option to browse from group to group in detail view. And: please explain who is right. The group and the website of the venue, of Mapbox. How do I explain this to groups when Mapbox does not accept a postal code? This can become painful when the site goes live…
Thank you for your input!
