The site is in development so I do not want to post a public link. Is there any way to send a link privately?
I even tried manually pasting in the single quotes. What happens is the first slide shows up with my custom css messed up and then none of the other slides show up. The rest of the site validates just fine.
actually my validation error message is slightly different:
Line 150, Column 27: Element style is missing required attribute scoped.
<style type=”text/css”>
my site is html5
I have the same issue and when I put the above code in my functions.php file it broke the entire slider.

If you go under the Appearance tab and go to Widgets, you can add widgets to the sidebar column by dragging and dropping to the widget areas from the widgets that are available.
