Hi bdbrown. I was waiting to see if repairing the database is a permanent solution. It wasn’t! It happened again. So I had to go into phpMyAdmin (CP pane) and repair lines that show data overflow (in the “overhead”). That appears to solve it permanently.

Thank you, bdbrown. It was a database issue. I did a repair as you suggested and it was fine. The host company says it is a plugin that is causing it, but they can’t pinpoint which plugin it is.

Thank you bdbrown. I’ve Wordfence installed. When I did a scan it identified many alterations to the original wordpress files. And it did a restore but these problems still remain.

Yes, I have corrected it.

The problem was inconsistent use of http and https that created 404 referral to home page for categories with https.

My original statement didn’t correctly reflect what I wanted to say. i don’t know who was chasing me!

What I was asking is that:
“when I click on a category page, it shows the same content as the home page rather than the posts in that category”

I hope that makes it a bit clearer.

Hi bdbrown, thank you for you help. I am using a customer permanent link in the form url/%category%/%postname%/. It has been in use for sometime with no problem. It is today that I observed the category page is defaulting to homepage.

I have identified what the problem is. I experimented by not ticking the homepage option in the visibility (in general settings). It worked!

So there is a problem with the Plugin visibility option when one ticks both the pages and homepage. That is, the plugin works on homepage sidebar when I ticked pages and unticked homepage.

Following your comment and my response to it, I decided to experiment by not ticking homepage in visibility option. Bingo! It works!!

No, I do not have any plugin that manages widgets are displayed. The WP QUADS (Quick AdSense Reloaded) widget specifically ask where one needs the adsence displayed and I ticked home page, pages and categories.

I am wondering whether the problem is with the Hueman theme, the WP QUADS plugin or some other plugin conflict.

One more observation, when I reinstalled the old version every worked fine.

Yes, as you can see from the screen shots, the sidebar widget is not showing on home page.In the general setting (Visibility) I ticked Posts, Pages, Homepage and Categories.

Perhaps there might something not quite right somewhere.

It’s the primary sidebar. It’s not showing on home page but shows on other pages, for example, see https://www.allvitalpoints.com/other-health-conditions/health-and-fitness-isnt-the-same/
