UPDATE:

OK, duh i figured out what i was doing wrong. I was forgetting to SAVE the selected sidebar in the ‘Select the sidebar available for substitution’ in the CS configure screen—thinking that the selection was connected to the SAVE button under the New Sidebar creation section.

I still can’t figure out why the First Front Page Widget should ever show as replaceable on my Default Template though on my pages though, even if i select it as replaceable in my CS config screen. Anyone have any ideas or can enlightened my at this point obviously fried brain?

UPDATE 3: So it turnes out that after my recent Twentythirteen upgrade this evening, my child theme’s functions.php file broke the site, and caused my parent theme (Twentythirteen) to become corrupt. So i’ve now removed my functions.php file from my child theme, and have to figure out how to get my custom functions.php functionality back—annoying, but at least my child theme is working and all that work was not lost ??

UPDATE 2: Every time i activate my child theme, i get a blank white page with no error message. To resolve the issue and get back into my site’s admin, i remove my child theme folder from my themes folder. Then when i look back into the Manage Themes page of WordPress admin area, suddenly is shows two versions of the Twentythirteen theme, of which it now says the current one is broken, so i then activate the ‘other’ one (there is only one twentythirteen theme in my themes folder) and then it seems find—but i STILL can’t activate my child theme again…? ??

Wow – so easy! Thanks so much. Another question, which may become obvious once i go and have a look at making this work, but can i then style this listing in a specific way, and control what information is output specifically for that particular listing. (Since in the widget i can control the way the date, image, location etc are displayed).

I’ll go and have a look at making this work, and if the above doesn’t become clear, I may be back asking for some more help.
