Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Sorry, I just thought of this.
Could I uninstall and reinstall wordpress in filezilla? would that help, and if so, is it as easy as deleting all files with wp in it, and then reinstalling the wp files into filezilla?

I called the server and they’re saying 500 means there’s a messed up .php file. Would anyone know how I can fix that? I know 500 can mean a million things but I have to go on something here.

Sorry about that, I meant that I had unpacked the folder, and still no change (error 500)…

I uploaded the zip file and still no dice…
do you have any other suggestions?

I did try that and it still doesn’t work…Under the theme folder, I see twenty ten, twenty eleven, .DS_Store, and index.php
I renamed twenty ten by adding -old.
I also renamed the whole plugins folder with plugins.old

Do you have any other thoughts?

Yes I do, as long as the 0 in your folder above is not included? I do see twentyeleven as a folder in FileZilla. I did try to rename it to the “new” theme that messed up my site, but it didn’t work…
I hope you have a suggestion, I see that you have solved many disasters!

Thanks for the advice, but it didn’t work…I’m still getting error 500. It’s not that I can’t get into the login page, I just can’t get to the dashboard at all.

Thanks so much for trying. I have no idea what else I can do. Is there a way to restore it back to how it was say a few days ago?

The error message I get in when I login to wp-admin is:
http error 500 (internal server error): an unexpected condition was encountered while the server was attempting to fulfill the request

I tried everything you suggested and I still can’t get into my dashboard. And I still can’t really figure out why the new theme doesn’t show up in filezilla….

I did, I can log in, but I’m getting the 500 error…
All I’m seeing on the forums is how to install a theme via filezilla, but I need to somehow get the default twentyeleven theme, or anything, to become activated so I can get into dashboard and fix things…
