Hi I’m also trying to update wordpress,
I also tried to use the automatic update and now when i try to open my dashboard i getFatal error: Call to undefined function get_taxonomies_for_attachments() in D:\hosting\10085566\html\wp-admin\menu.php on line 67,
after reading your advice above Chris Olbekson, i will try to upload using the Manual Update instructions. using filezilla with my web host,
problem is the first thing manual instructions says after open up down loaded wordpress zip file is turn off all plugins but i cant get into my dashboard to achieve this

i’m using W3 Total Cache to get my site to load faster,
i had a grade F at pressent i have a grade D using YSlow
i’m at the stage where i’m using SpritMe to eliminate some HTTP requests on load up,
would you Know once ive compressed the images in SpriteMe into one, how to download then upload and integrate the CSS changes back into my code,
