I won’t be able to test the idea of enabling Jetpack on the main site for some time, so please go ahead and close this thread. I’ll post a new question if that doesn’t work.

@bcworkz – thanks for the suggestion. I may resort to that!

@erania-pinnera – I have added that line to wp-config.php, but I see no difference in the admin dashboard. In particular, the Jetpack Settings page says nothing about Safe Mode.

Is it possible that Jetpack on the staging site isn’t going into Safe Mode because the Jetpack plugin is disabled on the main site?

Thanks for your reply – it is very helpful.

Is there a way to force Jetpack into Safe Mode on our staging site? The info I have found online about Safe Mode seems to say that Jetpack offers the option to use Safe Mode when a staging site is created. Unfortunately, the staging site was already in existence when I took over as webmaster. And I did not see that option offered when I activated the Jetpack plugin on the staging site.
