In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Old backups vanished ?!Hi Pat,
I would like to make sure no further problems occur due to the phantom file entries and retention.
I would advise you to delete the missing backup entries from the UI to clear away the missing files.
You could then run another backup and provide me the log to make sure the backups are retained.
I am sorry I’m unable to explain the missing backups, I’d like to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
Best regards,
NickHi @markcassar99
The developers have created a tweaked version of the plugin to solve the issue:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BT4oVgnUpX7TIosrdgwCq9UPJsoXV2Zv/view
When I was downloading there was a Google message about technical difficulties.
It’s probably not persistent, I only mention it as I had to wait a while for it to start.
There was also a message about their virus scanner not being able to scan the file.
Please let me know if the fix works for you. It’s helpful feedback for the developer.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Old backups vanished ?!Hi Pat,
It really does appear those files no longer exist and I’m at a loss to explain why.
Are there settings differences between the working sites and the problem site?
I’ve run tests to see if I could replicate the problem somehow but with no luck.
Best regards,
NickHi Pauline,
Thank you very much, I’m glad to hear everything’s working correctly now!
Best regards,
NickHi Pauline,
Thank you for the log file. The message in the file confirms no remote storage is configured:
0214.864 (0) No remote despatch: user chose no remote backup service
You should check Google Drive is selected in Settings and click on the ‘Save Changes’ button.
This will prompt you to authorize a connection to Google Drive. Please follow the instructions.
This should correctly connect Google Drive and allow you to send the backups to the storage.
If you have any difficulties or questions please message me back and I will be happy to assist.
Best regards,
NickHi there,
Yes, that’s one option for the file. You should also have other options next to each backup.
In your Existing backups there will be items with 3 buttons; Restore, Delete and View Log.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Old backups vanished ?!Hi Pat,
That’s better, thank you.
This section of the log file appears to indicate the are backups stored on the local server:
0044.055 (0) Examining (for files) backup set with nonce=f8c9c7fb89f3, datestamp=1737542100 (Jan 22 2025 10:35:00)

However you mentioned you don’t see the files on the local server in wp-content/updraft
Which means the history may be incorrect. Have you clicked on rescan local storage as yet?
It’s possible files have been removed at some point and the info displayed in the UI is wrong.
Based on what you’ve written this does appears likely and the interface is not reflecting this.
Best regards,
NickHi there,
That’s no problem with the delay.
The reason my colleague suggested looking at the Cron Events is they should be registered.
At a minimum when database and files are scheduled for backup you should see these items:
updraft_backup_database, updraft_backup, updraftplus_clean_temporary_files
When searching the Cron events using the keyword ‘updraft’ the hooks should appear listed.
If this isn’t the case you could make a small change to backup settings and then change back.
It’s important to click ‘Save Changes’ to make sure the settings entries are correctly preserved.
When you return to the Cron Events the items should now be visible and scheduled to process.
If this isn’t the case please message us back and we will look for any further causes for the issue.
Best regards,
NickHi there,
Unfortunately the file you linked doesn’t have the required information for a restore.
Normally a database backup will have a file name like this: backup_2025-01-28-1540_EXAMPLE_60668ecc777a-db.gz
Within the compressed file there will be information on the tables and all their values.
Without this information there isn’t enough data to populate the database effectively.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Old backups vanished ?!Hi Pat,
Thank you for the log file.
Unfortunately when I went to read the file I only see this message on the page:
This page is no longer available. It has either expired, been removed by its creator, or removed by one of the Pastebin staff.
I’m unsure of the reason.
Best regards,
NickHi Pauline,
Thank you for the information.
Looking at your screenshot it shows the backups have not been sent to Google Drive.
You can see this is so because there would be a Google icon next to the backup date.
This may mean the settings for Google Drive are incorrect or were not correctly saved.
With the log file you could search and replace your domain name to help anonymize it.
The log file will help us to identify the problem better and provide more specific advice.

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Old backups vanished ?!Hi Pat,
Could you please attach the log file for one of the earlier backups using PasteBin (for example).
I’d like to check Jan 22 or Jan 08 to see if there’s any indication that the files are being removed.
Best regards,

In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Where are my files?Hi Jessie,
In your Existing backups can you see the backups with the buttons for database, plugins, etc.?
When you click on these buttons the option to download the content will be presented to you.
