No I have not tried any of those things as I didn’t know what to try.

If I switch to the 2012 theme, what does that do to the theme I paid for?

Actually, I just went to www.remarpro.com and downloaded the entire wordpress software to my desktop. Then, used winzip to go in to the wp-admin directory and saw the “upgrade.php” file in there. Copied that file to desktop, then uploaded it to my wp-admin directory. Then, when I tried to access my admin interface, I got a prompt about updating my databse, which took only a few seconds. I had no trouble then accessing the admin. It worked for me, hopefully it will for you.

Thank you for your help. I downloaded WordPress and then uploaded “upgrade.php” which was missing. Then, it asked me to do a database update, and I allowed it and all is well.

    Thanks again!

Um. “Thank you?” I really don’t use the boards much and I didn’t know threads were owned… sorry.

    Hello niranjannaulakha,

This seems to be my problem as well. How can I get the upgrade.php file to upload to my site?

    Thank you,
    Norm

How can the topic be resolved when it’s not resolved?

I cannot log in to my admin, but am re-directed to a page on my site that says “sorry page not found” (not the dashboard as I usually see).

    Help me…

No problem at all. I actually spent a couple days looking for plugins, but couldn’t find anything that works like I want it. Most everything just allowed me to specify only 1 category for the entire widget, and was not specific to the current post being read…

Kind of hard to believe there isn’t something like that already, but ’tis what it is I guess.

    Hi alchymyth,

Just a quick note to see if you were going to be able to give this a shot? If not, it’s fine, but thought I’d check before trying to find an answer…’

    Thanks,

Show like “Recent Posts” would show, yet, show all, and not just some of the links…

Ok, thanks on the e-mail heads up…

Yes, only post links in sidebar showing posts in the current particular category, whether the person is viewing only 1 post, OR viewing the category listing all the posts/letters. This way, instead of scrolling all the way down (some categories have 75 posts/letters), the person could just click the link to the right to go to the post/letter.

Yes, that’s when I got the error, but again, I’m not sure if I did it correctly either.

Also, just so you know, the way I have it set up now is that the categories (over 40 of them) are in a widget in a drop down directly above where I’d like to have the related post link widget.

That all seems to be working smoothly. It just seems that this would be something more people would want, so I’m surprised it’s not a popular widget at this point.

Basically, I want to show it much like a “Recent Posts” would show..

Maybe getting closer? Can you just send me the correct code by e-mail to [email moderated]?

I got this message on my latest attempt, but I think I might have messed it up when trying to add that code myself…

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_ELSE in /home/norlaw/churchletters.org/wp-content/plugins/related-category-posts-widget.php on line 66

I don’t know. Uploading the file to that folder doesn’t seem to impact it at all… I must be doing something wrong.

Dumb question I guess, but do I just go into the Editor in WP and replace the code presently there from James? Also, not sure if you know, it moves the version from 3.3 back to 3.2

Well, that’s exactly what I want that I see on your site, but in a sidebar. My list would be quite long… It’s a site for letters where the letters are actually posts, but I want people to be able to see all letters posted in the same category on the sidebar as they 1. View all posts/letters in category or 2. View 1 post/letter in category.

I’m sure you are correct in all this, but my capabilities aren’t there. I will probably end up hiring someone to do it for me.

Do you have a link to the live site? I saw where someone said it worked, but clicked the link and there was no site there.

Probably going to have to give up since it’s a bit over my head…

I saw teh “use related categories” option after replacing the original code with yours, but still when I sent to a post, there were no links from the same category showing up in the right sidebar.

Another weakness (for me) of the original code was that if the home page of my site was showing, it listed all the posts in the right border, when in fact, I only want posts showing if the person is browsing specific categories.

    Thanks again for everything…

    Norm
