Confirmed – 4.7.1 solves this properly – which is awesome because I was really not looking forward to breaking and subsequently unbreaking the code every time needed to edit a gallery!
Wordpress 4.7.1 appears to resolve this for me.
For what it’s worth, commenting out those two lines (1874 & 1875) lets NextCellent get through and display the gallery fully. No idea what else I just broke by doing that though. I think those lines just populated an argument list which will probably break something, but not totally error out as it would just pass an empty argument.
Edit: it appears, understandably, to break at least categories and tags. In wordpress’ posts list no categories or tags show for anything, but in a new post all categories are selected. So, I guess you can comment the lines out and do things like watermarking and rotation and then re-add them before doing anything else to avoid making a mess of things.

Yeah – there will be a time when the mismatch is an issue. To keep an eye out makes sense, but since we just saw WP 3.6, I suspect there’s at least a bit of time until a WP release which breaks compatibility with 1.9.13 hits.
While I agree that 2.0 has been rough, does it really make sense to switch? I do have some interest in switching, but haven’t found anything that seems as complete, easy and free was NextGen 1.9.13, so why not just stick with that for a while?
Seems like the easiest option for me. The 1.9.13 version isn’t really lacking anything that I feel I need, except current support, but I wasn’t really using that anyway. Maybe down the road if 2.0.x still has issues and I feel that the old version is outdated, then I’ll jump to something else.
Not trying to hijack this thread, I came here wondering what people have found also, but it seems like NextGen 1.9.13 is still viable, and ignoring that it’s “old” just as good as anything else.
I had to regenerate the thumbnails after adjusting the settings. Not sure if that’s what you’re seeing, but it might help.
For what it might be worth, mine did this too. I had to go into the settings, find the lightbox setting and go through each one checking the advanced options. In my case, my test site was somehow still pointing to the primary site and fixing the advanced options took care of things.
I had to go into the gallery settings, find the thumbnails portion and use the option to override the default dimensions. Then go into the gallery and regenerate the thumbnails.
To add to this comment – I removed NextGen completely, data and all and reinstalled it. After the reinstall, the links are formed properly. It would appear that there are issues in the upgrade.
With the plugin reinstalled fresh, the only thing I have noticed is that I can’t change the thumbnail size in a compact gallery, but this may not be a bug, so much as my lack of familiarity with the new interface.
Updated to Nextgen 2.0.2 with WordPress 3.6, disabled all other plugins.
Changes noticed from Nextgen 2.0
The old shortcodes for singlepics seem to work again – pics show up inline and lightboxed when clicked.
When I try to attach a gallery to a post, the ‘window’ that comes up is filled with my website.
When I’m managing galleries and I click any of the navigation – re-sort, next page, etc. I get kicked over to my home page.
Same as Nextgen 2.0:
Imagegebrowser gallery still has captions under each image.
I think it was a template that already existed, though I don’t think one that I made. I chose it before seeing the info tag saying that templates were not recommended.
I don’t recall if I tried changing effects – I think I did, but I can’t say for sure.
I can’t like to it b/c I’ve rolled my main site back to 1.9.13. My test site is on 2.0, but I can’t get that one to upload any images, so I can’t reproduce the issue there.
I’m likewise on a linux server with Hostgator.
I disabled all plugins with no apparent change to the insert image capability.
Some other notes, maybe related, maybe not, with NextGen Gallery 2.0:
1. Lightbox appears to be gone (can’t find a setting that brings it back) so my images load as links to jpegs rather than lightboxed galleries.
2. I turned on captions in the imagelist display and now they will not turn off regardless of settings.
I’m having this same issue as well as others. I’m on wordpress 3.7 alpha, though downgrading back to 3.5.2 didn’t make any difference.
