i bought wp commerce, i can say it’s not ‘easier’ for sure. its for more complex handling of funds/management.

there must be another way.

yeah I was hoping to stay away from having to edit htaccess, not because i don’t know how but was just hoping there was a way for WP to handle all my needs! ??

maybe not now it sounds like though. a two-tier installation is a clever approach, but i’d like to stay away from editing too many templates, css, sidebar files, etc. oh well, i’ll keep looking!

sorry my language was a bit ambiguous, because I have a few applications I’m looking for. For one, we don’t want people logged into the WP blog, so it’s not about roles or authors. one example is a friend who is a DJ, and he mixes a lot of music. he produces nearly an album a week, at least 2 a month, with lots of other little tracks available. we want to have WP operate so that the homepage just has ‘news’ or upcoming show dates, simple stuff. and an option to ‘JOIN’ his site, and then see the Members area, where they can download his albums or songs as they get published.

we thought WP would be applicable since they’re both dynamic: he publishes x-songs a week, so users could join for say $1/month or $10/year and get access to his collection. a ‘members’ area ran by WP but which can only get accessed once paying a fee.

geez I hope that makes sense. I still feel like I’m not hitting the nail on the head.

SOMETIMES, I really really hate computers. I had to re-upload my .htaccess file THREE times, and then finally it refreshed properly.

is there any way to delete this thread? sorry to take up anybody’s time.

unfortunately Mailman integration site is kerplunk and Newsletter manager redirects to semiologic ‘package’ selling for $300! thanks though.

well i had it running smoothly on 2.0.3, so i wouldn’t think 2.0.4 to be the problem.

i reckon it’s more in how my databases were moved. i’ve posted over at the Kiwi forums, but don’t think my error is very specific; i can’t find any real trace of it elsewhere on the nets.

i fear i’m going to have to repost everything, which isn’t that bad. i only had 30 or so posts, and now i’m with a new host for the long haul.

the only other thing i could think of was that it might be a PHP incompatibility problem. don’t know.

i am searching to try to solve this same issue, although not due to an upgrade, but rather a host-move and database restore. i’m hoping you solve your problem because it might shed light on mine ??

i was asking more for specifics as to what in WP won’t work ; i.e. will we not be able to add multiple authors for some reason? will we not be able to create category parents? obviously there are reasons why it says 4.2, not 3.x, and i’m looking for specifics, which aren’t listed anywhere, curious if a PHP developer could spot the gaps. but to no avail.
