• Up until version 2.9.2, I would have given the free version of Elementor 5 stars. Now, they have stuffed locked placeholders of pro widgets inside the free version, cluttering up the interface with no way to hide them for everyday editing. There is not even an option to reorder widget section defaults so that the usable widgets are on top and the pro widgets placeholders are minimized out of the way. I personally do not need the pro version, and for the most part my web design clients do not either. However, I am now forced to turn over a finished website cluttered with things my clients do not need.

Leaving little ads inside (which are still present) advertising more functionality in the pro version? Yes – that’s just fine, go for it.

But do not shovel clutter into the UI which gets in the way – particularly when it is already perfectly clear that the pro version is available if you want to buy it. If this is not remedied soon I plan to look into alternates such as Beaver Builder. Right now it seems like Elementor is going the way of the quick buck.
