Ashley,
Thanks for your reply. I believe that yesterday, after numerous iterations of associating and re-associating UpDraft with Google Drive, and after purchasing additional Drive storage, I was successful in getting my first backup done. I am going to try another one today, and if it succeeds I will then try a restore.
For the moment I don’t require any further assistance, but that could change. Thanks for your follow-up.

Hey, I’m trying diligently to do my part to figure out why your app is not working. Please let me know if you have given up on this so I can stop looking for solutions. Cheers,
Norman Sanders
Interestingly, for the first time there is now an “UpdraftPlus” folder on my Google Drive, though it contains nothing.
David: I just received an email from WordPress indicating that a Backup had completed, but it also said that the backup has not finished. It also contains this info:
Errors encountered:
* Backup directory (/home1/ndsintex/public_html/wp-content/updraft) is not writable, or does not exist.Warnings encountered:
* /home1/ndsintex/public_html/wp-content/updraft: The backup directory is not writable (or disk space is full) – the database backup is expected to shortly fail. There is also a log attached to the email. If you will give me some way of getting this to you, I will do so.

So I got PasteBin to accept the text, but it then failed because I have exceeded the 512K size limit on a free account. The actual txt file is 2,492KB.
Next?
S.
I created a PasteBin account, but am unclear what to do with it. It does not allow me to paste either the name of the log file, or the actual text of the log file through a copy and paste.
My apologies, I’ve never used this tool and don’t know what I’m doing with it.
I could put the saved file in my Google Drive and share it with you, but you’d have to give me an ID of some sort for doing that.
Incidentally, I did just get a new message from Google confirming that Updraft Plus is now connected to my Google Drive account.
Following from Scott’s advice, I went back and checked that UpdatePlus was showing as being authenticated under WP. It was, but I deleted it and re-authenticated. I received the following message:
Success: you have authenticated your Google Drive account. Name: Norman Sanders. Your Google Drive quota usage: 0.3 % used, 36765.6 MB available
I will now try another backup.

After changing the split archive value to 200, I tried another backup, which ended with this message:
The backup attempt has finished, apparently unsuccessfully (Nov 23 08:36:34)
I saved the log file, but I’m not seeing a way to attach it to this message. Kindly advise how you would wish me to get you that file.
As always, there is no directory or data related to updraft on my Google Drive page.
Under the Settings button on Drive, Updraft Plus is listed as one of the Connected Apps, though the Options button associated with Updraft does not provide any choices, unlike the other connected apps.
Thanks in advance for your help, I cannot believe that this has to be so difficult…
I let one run overnight and it failed again. I was unable to view/copy the log, this was the message:
Loading log file (log.f7977b39b9b0.txt) … 502 (UpdraftPlus: could not parse the JSON)
I am going to try again today after following Scott’s advice to change the split archive value in the opposite direction.
Thank you for your response, and I will be happy to follow your recommendation. Before doing so, may I please have your advice: Under the advanced options, I changed the “split archives” value from 400 to 1000. I was not sure in which direction, or how far, to “fiddle” with that setting. If you will give me a value you want me to use, I will initiate a new backup and send you the log.
Greatly appreciate the support.

In reply to: Menu Too Long – Cannot Scroll DownOur messages crossed. If you revisit the site this evening, you’ll find that I THINK I have done what you recommended. The Adventures tab is gone, and the 254 County tab that replaced it now has only three menu items. The Trips menu has all of the main trips embedded in it, and some of them in turn have their own embedded links to Days.
I found, thanks to you, how to sort out the RSS feed issue.
I have already bought the Envira Gallery plug-in, but I have found little to no use for it – my hope was that it could help me display full-screen images but I’ve not succeeded in making it do that, so basically it was money wasted. I’ve deactivated it. If you are aware of a better tool (something that is similar to Google Photos), let me know.
I really appreciate the suggestions you’ve given me, and I’ve bookmarked your site in case I get into additional conundra. (I’m sure I will.)
Hope you get to look at the revised site, I think it’s better…

In reply to: Menu Too Long – Cannot Scroll DownJNashHawkins – I went ahead and turned 254 Counties into a Page, and moved it to the top of the main menu, but I’m not clear on how I should embed the posts on that page.
As you’ll see – take a look at Trip 3 – Panhandle. That Post, which is also currently on the menu tree, has 4 embedded URL links to the individual day segments of Trip 3. Those were once sub-menus of Trip 3, but I removed them and pasted the links into the Trip 3 Summary. That cleared some of the clutter from the menu, but each embedded link on the Summary takes up a LOT of space…
Are you suggesting that I should use that same technique and just embed the URL link to each of the Trip top posts onto the 254 County Page? And then remove ALL the trips from the Menu?
I have noted that you are running a remunerated support service, so don’t worry that I’m going to try to use this Q&A as a way to get freebies. Depending on whether/how I evolve my blog, I may well be back to you for further support, but at this point I’m just trying to be clear on what you are recommending. Tks if you can help further… S.

In reply to: Menu Too Long – Cannot Scroll DownThank you all for your quick and useful assistance.
1. I did take T-P’s advice and go to the 2017 Theme page. I did not find a way of posting a new question, but on a search I found a suggestion of code to insert as Additional CSS. It did not have any effect.
2. I am willing to make the Adventures page an “index”, but I don’t know how to do that. Any suggestions.
3. JNashHawkins, thank you for the positive feedback. I did try placing the posts widget in the sidebar, but it made the photos even smaller than they already are, so I moved it to the footer. I have very little readership anyway, so the only one likely to get to the bottom of one of my posts is ME! I did not even know that I HAD an RSS feed, and would welcome suggestions on how to accomplish what you’ve suggested.
My sitemaps are good and logical and consistent. I’m a beginning blogger, but I’m meticulous and careful. But very inexperienced.
Tks in advance for any further assistance any of you can provide. S.

In reply to: Menu Too Long – Cannot Scroll DownThank you for the suggestion. This means that you think that the anomaly is not a WP characteristic?
