Can I simply modify the permission of the htaccess file? What value do I put in?

permalinks urls are good but pages not found. ideas on how to fix this?

complicated. i used text editor to create the file. of course the file name .htaccess made the file invisible. So I did it again without the period (thinking I could rename it once it was in the directory). I put it there but don’t see it. Suggestions on how to do this properly?

this is what I am trying to do, set up custom permalinks. How do I get the .htaccess file? wordpress won’t can’t generate it

I uploaded wordpress in a supdirectory. Now I get this message: Unable to create directory wp-content/uploads/2012/11. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I read the file above (thank you Christine, very helpful) and changed a few permissions of some word press files (index.php, uplaod.php)… but I think the permissions must be changed in the parent directory… must I changed the whole root of that directory? Any idea what permissions I need to change and where?

I still don’t understand if it is something that I need to change in the import.php or related to the portfolio theme I am using.

Hi Esmi, i’ve uploaded the WordPress files and folders to my hosting account… then I am supposed to Open wp-admin/install.php in your browser (I assume web browser) but how do I do this? It automatically opens dreamweaver and gives me WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP… how do i resolve?
