I followed the directions and found it to work. I was using a theme called ‘Fly Fishing’ when it crashed, but I was walking thru a series of themes checking them all out.

I logged into phpmysql and went to the wp-options table. On the second page, ids 48 (template) and 49 (stylesheet), I changed them to ‘default’.

When I logged back into admin, I still had ‘fly fishing’ as the chosen theme, but wp was working. I changed themes and then deleted fly fishing.

    Hope this helps someone.

I don’t have the solution, but I have your problem. I uploaded dozens of themes and one blanked my site. I cannot access the site or the admin area. I checked files but cannot find where the pointer is to the themes and do not know which theme is bad.

I have a new blog so deleting it isn’t the worst thing that could happen, but I was hoping to find a recovery first.

It doesn’t look too bad to me. If it were me, I would change the ‘joinbillmcmahonblog.com’ in the title to the words spelled out, and you might reconsider the slide shows. In Firefox, the menu bars below the pictures overlap the text in your articles.

I like the site. I am a simple person and don’t like the cluttered sites with dozens of links everywhere. I really like the way you used the left sidebar to present your picture and story.

You might consider placing a category module in the right column so visitors can choose types of articles to read. You look like you have a lot to offer on your site.

    Good luck

I just visited your site. I see three sets of Google Ads, The first is a vertical list of three ads (dark blue) with a horizontal list of three ads (light blue) and at the bottom of your post a horizontal list of four ads similar in color to the other horizontal list of 3 ads. The same list holds true to the article when directly clicked.

Checking around, it appears that each article has a multiple google ads with different formats each. I didn’t find a ‘fungus’ ad or an excess of google ads on a single page. (I believe Google only allows 3 sets per page.)

I don’t know if you solved the problem, but unless one of those google ads were the culprit, I didn’t see the problem as described. Can you let us know if it is resolved or not, and if not, which set of ads are extra?

I don’t know if this helps, but on one of my sites (paragonrv.com), I use an add-in module called “All in One Adsense and YPN“. I can choose to turn the ads on and off at will from the Dashboard. While the Google ads take up the full left column of the article at the time of this writing, the text of longer articles will wrap around the ads.

Just a note of information. At the time of this writing, ParagonRV has been setup with a series of articles which will be released on a daily basis beginning June 15, 2009. Inside each article after the <!--more--> is an ad from ClickBank which resembles Google ads appearance. Since Google does not allow similar ads displayed on the same page with their own ads, I have instructed “All in One…” to only display Google ads on the main page and not on the category or articles pages.

Did you find an answer? I am looking for the same solution.

I am new here, I want to know how to change the generated password to my own password?

    angela at https://www.asachs.webs.com

When a user or admin logs in, at the bottom of the left column is ‘Profile’ just above ‘tools’. Click on ‘profile’ and scroll down to the bottom. The last two entries are for the password. There is a strength indicator there as well.

    hope this helps

    Thank you,
I haven’t used word since I don’t like using 100kb to say ‘hello world’.

I am learning this after getting used to Joomla so I have the habit of copying text into notepad and then copying out if notepad to the editor and applying formatting after that.

That is a good note to have, tho. I’ll have to give it a try.

    Thanks

    <?php if (is_search()) { the_excerpt(); } else { the_content(‘Read the whole article »’); } ?>

The above line is the only place in index.php I found the_excerpt or the_content. ( I modified the existing text to say ‘Read the whole article’)

I opened functions.php (in the theme) and did not find is_search, the_excerpt or the_content.

I did add the ‘more’ break and when the article comes to that point, it displays the statement ‘Read the whole article’.

I searched all the wp directories and the one theme directory but could not find a functions.php that contained the above three function names.

While I prefer everything but the single article page to display the excerpt, the read more feature manually entered works ok.

I tried modifying the php code, but I couldn’t get a simple comment not to display in my content, so I better wait for a time I know a little more.

    Thank you
    Buck

I am finding the opposite problem. However, I discovered that some templates insert the read-more and some do not.
If you can’t figure out tomontoast’s solution, you may consider a different theme. Most seem not to trim the posts.

    I hope this is helpful

When you talk about the index page to your site, are you talking about index.html or index.php, the main page of your blog?

In my sites, MyTipsPlace for example, a visitor has access to everything but the admin area. There is no login required. I had to remove index.html for index.php (the WP executable) to display wordpress.

My WP is installed in the root public_html folder. This means that if someone enters my base URL https://www.mytipsplace.com, they will get my wp frontpage. (Maybe that is what you are calling the index). I see you have yours in the wp2 directory. If I were to have done that on my site, the users would have to go to https://www.mytipsplace.com/wp2 in order to see my wp site. If this is the case, someone else will have to tell you how to edit your .htaccess file, or whatever is needed to redirect your users directly to the wp directory.

I hope this makes sense or helps.

    Good luck

I’ll take a WAG that your collumns are inconsistent between the two browsers. In IE it looks like your right collumn is a few pixels narrower causing a wrap. Can you narrow your left collumn about 5-10 pixels?

PS don’t ask…I am at the mercy of others when it comes to editing css.
