  • Granted I haven’t figured this all out yet cause I don’t have the posts but my plan is this:
Show 4 posts from 1 category named *Home* on the home page
Then I deleted the Left & Right buttons
then I added a menu button on the bottom header called BLOG and that will be
    everything under the sun.

I assume I will get the same effect w/ this w/ out having to make a static PAGE w/ the coding knowledge ??

    ok goood news!

Shortly after updating to wordpress 3.13 my website slowed down to a screeching halt forcing me to modify plugins – adjust themes etc.. to fix the bug or actually a multitude of issues. (one of the many things that comes w/ using a lot of plugins)

Anyways, this forced me to update my theme – I was using an older version of swiftthemes customized for buddypress – and now I have updated to the newest version of swift customized for buddypress. ( THis has fixed my issue )

So in the end it was just an outdated theme issue..

Sorry for bothering you, I didn’t realize my theme was so far behind i guess.

I believe I am using wordpress 3.1.2 and the latest version of buddypress.
and am on a Multi-Site wordpress blog. w/ Achievements active network wide.

*went back and added an image to every one of my blogs and still no go*
    wp-content>blogs.dir>1>files>Image.jpg

ps: I have had 1 issue w/ buddypress where I can’t get my forum topics to work – I can’t imagine the two being connected in anyway, but just letting you know. I never bothered to fix it cause I don’t use the forums.

Honestly didn’t even know about the Achievement settings on the back panel. But I checked it out – and there were no search keywords. Try putting in some keywords thinking maybe it wasn’t bringing anything up because of all the images.. and that didn’t help either.

So then I went and decided to look @ the blogs.dir folder which is honestly used very rarely.. but under ID #1 I saw the files folder and inside that folder there was an avatars folder and maybe a podpress folder

anyways, I added the specific Image i wanted to use to the files folder, to the id#1 folder and I created a folder called upload inside the files folder and placed the image in there.. I did this because i’m not sure where at I was supposed to upload the image in the Root blog folder..

Well none of this seemed to work and I still get the same thing in the beginning:

First you must upload an image to your wordpress media center

thanks for the help so far ?? I’m completely lost though.

no, but it seems to magically create LESS traffic.

Yep, I posted a topic, but ended up finding the answer w/ someone else that had the same issue. Here is the topic thread:

    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/avatars-of-member-not-showing-in-all-blogs/

I guess I’ll never understand why changing the htacess back to normal – all the suddenly fixed the CSS issues, and the Post Images, but I’ll take it.

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

lol, I just changed it back to the other way, and the CSS still comes in fine now, and the images show up properly.. but ofcourse the Buddypress Avatars are no longer working.

Why can’t they all just work!!

    I’m thinking that the only issue at this point is the buddypress images;

Any ideas? to add a second htacess string that will just make this work?

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

Just to add, I don’t think this fixed every problem.. As It fixed the CSS issue and the buddypress avatar issue..

1 issue still lies ahead, and thats now adding images to posts. I can add images to posts quite easily actually, but the problem occurs when I add the image to a slider. Probably partial to the new regulations by wordpress to use these (Thumbnail things) whihc is honestly a pain in the rear.

It seems that I have to upload the file to a specific directory to work, and that directory isn’t functioning properly w/ the new htaccess info. I will open up a new thread and hope that someone can solve this issue.

    (@mymorningstory)

I’ll probably work on the site a lot this weekend to see if I can get anywhere, and if other problems do occur then I will let everyone know my update, as I’m sure someone could use this thread in the future as for some help.

thanks so much for everything ??

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

well they somehow fixed the issue. Host gator will work on something until its fixed, I give them that much. Here is what they did:

    Changed .htaccess:
    #RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-includes/ms-files.php?file=$1 [L] <-Old
    RewriteRule ^files/(.+) wp-content/uploads/$1 [L] <-New
Here is the translation of what that says so if you need other changes you can upload .htaccess yourself.

I’m a bit suprised that this is what had to be changed, does anyone have any idea why this was the problem?

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

I know i’m editing it properly; I download it from my ftp server using FileZilla port21 and edit it on my desktop then upload it into the same directory.

Directory being /www/.htacess The www folder is where everything is being stored: wp-content wp-admin wp-includes, Etc…

This information probably doesn’t help much ??

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

They have asked me to duplicate the problems for them w/ images. I just got done sending out another email. I am wondering is it possible, somehow 2 htacess files got uploaded and I’m editing the wrong one?

It sounds plausible right? Though, I don’t think thats the case, but I’m trying to think outside the box.

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

agh yeah, your right. I did replace the old stuff and not add-to. I even replaced the htaccess information w/ your advice from above. I have kept it that way since.

    Thread Starter mymorningstory

    (@mymorningstory)

@ipstenu – I had pretty permalinks working for some time, and it worked before this became wordpress multiuser. I am not updating the htaccess.dist file either. I am using a mac, and had to turn on all my hidden files just to see the htaccess file when I downloaded it ??

@andrea – i’m not sure what you mean about the *log-in* in the title bar. Currently I am using a plugin for buddypress that has a drop down log-in menu.

(So I have contacted host gator multiple times at this point, and they are now just asking me how to reproduce the problems. So there has been some progression, but still waiting on answers.
