In reply to: There has been a critical error on this website. No emailSo is the short answer no, there is no way to access the link if you don’t receive the email? It isn’t in the database for example. And if it isn’t available, how about adding it as a feature?
I know how to troubleshoot; e.g., to use phpmyadmin to drop tables, turn off plugins and change userIDs and passwords. I also have access to a file manager in cPanel that I have already used to edit the .htaccess file, and read the error_log. So far, no luck with any of that, still a critical error.
So having access to the link would save me a lot of time and possibly solve my problem.

Here is what the instructions say: Disable automatic redirection to the login page when /wp-admin/ is requested by an unauthorized request.
How is a request with the correct username from a whitelisted IP an “unauthorized” request?
Surely, these requests should be redirected to the login page, and NOT be shown the “not found” error?
Thank you. I was able to resolve the problem and so want to advise you of the problem. For some reason the WP installation was seeing my login IP as the server IP. That IP was blocked due to numerous spam submissions through my contact us form.
From this I learned to always add the server IP to the Whitelist. Just FYI to you in case you want to add that to your setup instructions, always whitelist the server IP on shared hosting.
It wasn’t the theme. Same result with a WP theme that I know works with Cerber. Only thing left is something at the host, how they operate Apache perhaps? I asked them to investigate. The host denied it was the problem. So I got a new host, moved my site and it worked fine at the new host.
I wished the host would have been more interested in troubleshooting the problem.
@sterndata Thank you. That solved the problem.
Thank you for the extremely fast response. I’ll try what you suggest.
Post so I can mark as resolved
Thanks. I read your post over carefully. I guess I can fix my problem now that I understand how to modify wp-config. It is pretty sad though that this is what you have to do, and iThemes hasn’t fixed this.

In reply to: Which .htaccess If WP is Installed in a Directory not RootThank you for the reply. I have index.php silence is golden set for the install directory. I thought the purpose of that was to stop directory scanning? And if they can’t scan the install directory, they can’t scan directories like wp-content nested inside the install directory?
Thank you for the help. Problem solved.

In reply to: Good Written Resource for 83 year old Father to Learn WP?Thanks for the suggestions. I’ve reviewed the dummies book. It was published in 2011. I hadn’t thought of the problem of WP evolving and books being static, but I can see that would probably frustrate my Dad. I’ll look on Amazon for a more recent dummy style book with good reviews as suggested. Thanks again.
Thanks. Perfect. It was driving me crazy that I set the status to pending or draft and the old URL still worked.

In reply to: User-Agent: 404 errors, my site the Referrer? Thanks for responding.
No, the site seems to be OK. No broken images or missing links that I can see. That is not to say there aren’t any broken images or links, but none that I can see.
