but haven’t seen any plugin or similar.

You should have got a new widget area name “wordpress dashboard” under the widgets tab. as in the case of widget in your themes.

You can use Jalenack’s ajax shoutbox for this purpose.
see the ajax shoutbox’s link.
install that plugin and put the shoutbox as a widget inside the dashboard using the widgetized dashboard plugin.

can you guys post the download link for that plugin. The plugin’s official site is down.
