The shadow effect is pretty simple. Just a div that wraps around the entire content area with a 760 x 1 pixel image that repeats vertically. That way it stretches to the length of the content.
By the custom HR do you mean the stars separator? That’s just a background on the post post divs that’s aligned to the bottom.

Looks great. What did you do to pull off the Archives as you did? Can you share your code?
