Perhaps all those plug-ins and other installed do-dads are slowing you down. Other than that, if you are using a shared hosting account you could upgrade to a dedicated server or virtual private server.
The sample pages sitting there should not affect your speed but unless you have unlimited disk space that could be an issue.
