I’m having the same issue! My images are 1600x600px. So, you’re telling me that by decreasing the height to 500px it will show more text? That′s odd :/
But, for testing purposes, I’ve done this and the problem is still the same.

Oh.. and the interesting thing is that in the Latest News (just below, on the homepage) the read more link appears just fine
