In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Hide future events on homepage?Hi Ed,
Could you respond please?
Or if it’s not something you can help with, could you kindly say so, so I can look elsewhere for help.
Many thanks,

In reply to: [The Events Calendar] Hide future events on homepage? Thanks for taking a look Ed.
https://staging.woodseatschess.org.uk/
As you can see, on the homepage in the main content area, it is showing all events, including those that will take place in the future.
The behaviour I want is for future events only to be showed in the sidebar (that’s working fine), with only past events to be shown mixed in with regular blog posts.
Hope that makes sense. Any suggestions very much apprecieated.
Thanks,

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetOkay, tried it out on hosts server, and works fine, all the ocaenwp widgets are available. Also, just updated php on my Mac, and likewise, all oceanwp widgets agailable there.
I’d suggest you have some kind of popup with the extra plugin. Detect if the required version of php is not available, and display a message to user, along the lines of “some functionality (like widgets) will not be available until you upgrade to latest php”.
Just a suggestions.
Anyhow, thanks again for your help.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetPHP Version 5.5.38
It’s on a test server, running on local machine (Mac). Possibly that’s the issue?
If so, it I’ll try it out on my hosting server; they’ll be on the latest version of PHP for sure.

I can’t see anything other than the standard wordpress widget for recent posts.
Is it possible the demos on the oceanwp site are using some third party plugins or widgets?

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetHi Amit,
Yes, I have the Ocean Extra plugin installed and activated.
I can’t seem to find anything resembling >>Recent Post though. There is only a Recent Post widget in Appearance > Widgets.
Where do I find the ‘>>Recent Post’ widget or how to add it to sidebar?
Thanks for your patience.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetThanks Amit.
This first screenshot, is after I install oceanwp and the ‘travel’ demo, on my local machine. I selected all the options, while going through the download demo process (using the oceanwp demo download plugin thing).
This second screenshot, is from https://travel.oceanwp.org/blog/
You can see the sidebar looks very different.
I’d like to get the recent posts with thumbnails. Also, the other widgets in the sidebar are interesting, but don’t appear after downloading it using the oceanwp demo downloader.
If you can advice, what steps should I take to get the recent posts thumbnails?
Thanks.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetHi Amit. It’s only on a local test server so far.
The posts all have featured images set. I used the oceanwp demo importer plugin to import the ‘travel’ theme.
Quite a few elements of the sidebar did’t look right, or were missing.

In reply to: [OceanWP] Thumbnails on recent posts widgetThank you Amit. I’ve done that though, and it’s just showing the regular recent posts without any thumbnails. Any suggestions?

In reply to: 404 / permalink problemsOkay, this is now resloved.
Turns out, the line in the apache config file, responsible for including the mod rewrite module, was commented out. Doh!
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 404 / permalink problemsInfact, looks like it’s defaulting to almost-pretty permalinks, for example:
https://192.168.1.200/wp/test_parabola/index.php/2018/12/07/hello-world/
Is that the default setting for WP?

In reply to: 404 / permalink problemsUPDATE:
I’ve checked/edited the apache .conf files; and as far as I can see, they’re all okay.
AllowOverride All
and
Options FollowSymLinksA bit lost.

In reply to: 404 / permalink problemsThank you t-p, that’s something to go on.
No idea why the PATHINFO/”Almost Pretty”/index.php/ variety of permalink was selected. Pretty sure I didn’t originally set that, and I definintely didn’t enter the string for “/index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/”.
Anyhow, after reading through your link; my best guess is that apache isn’t setup correctly, and .htaccess is being ignored (looks like WP can create/write .htacess, so presumably permissions are not an issue.
So, just 2 questions:
1. After I’ve edited /etc/apache2/httpd.conf and /etc/apache2/user/<me>.conf; I just need to restart apache? Or do I also need to do something to wordpress, for example, set the permalink option again?
2. Other than modifying http.conf etc, is there any other way to tell if apache is setup correctly?
Many thanks for your help. ??
