i am thinking that it might have possibly counted other images before your actual post. in my case, the plugin also counts the thumbnails of related posts below my actual post.
In 2.8, will we be able to control widget display between home and single? As what I see now in 2.7, once you add a widget, it will show up in home and single pages.
