In reply to: [Arconix FAQ] Collapse FAQ from within contentI was thinking of the “return to top” option also… either, or both, would be a great option if implemented.
I think I understand your dilemma though… if at the end of a longish FAQ, where the browser page will be scrolled down in order to read it all, closing it from down at the end of it, would just cause the FAQ to collapse back up at it’s original position, where the reader would probably have to scroll back up to that original position anyway… hm… so maybe it’s just a matter of six one way, a half a dozen another.
Thanks for doing what you can, John. All the best to you,

In reply to: Not being recognized as Admin when logged in<sarcasm>Thank you for all the help to all those here on the WP Forums!</sarcasm>
For others though, who may come up with this problem, I was helped by the awesome support at ProPhoto Blogs, who took the much appreciative time with figuring out where the issue was coming from.
It seemed under WordPress Settings > General, all it ended up being was under the ‘WordPress Address (URL)’ and in the ‘Site Address (URL)’, the Site Addy had –
whilst, the WP Addy only had –
Yep, just the missing of the ‘www.’ was what was the problem… once entered, my being an Admin was then somehow accepted and recognized. ?? Also, it cleared up my ‘.htaccess’ being automatically rewritten when a change occurred, whereas before, it was also not doing that, but needing to update manually.
So, if anyone encounters this themselves, simply go and double check that both addresses are fully entered correctly.
Thank you again to the very helpful support at ProPhoto Blogs!

In reply to: 'Categories', and 'Search' functions not workingI just found another post in this ‘Category Widget’ tag, who also never got any help or reply back, and they were able to get the Category Widget to work, if they deselected the “Display As Dropdown” and just had the categories listed one right after another, in whatever area you place the Category Widget.
I tried that, and found that if I did uncheck the “Display As Dropdown” box, that clicking on a category then took me to that Category’s entries. Which is all well and good, and glad that is an option, that actually works, but, it takes up a lot of space, that having the convenient drop down menu serves better use in keeping the area nice and tidy. So, for BuddhaNature, and myself, why will the Category Widget work in list form and not in dropdown form, and how to fix it so that it does work in drop down form?
Thank you for your time,

Sorry for the waste of time to those who stopped by to read my question!

In reply to: Should I not delete Spam?Thank you very much, Samuel. I guess I will save myself the extra little click and step of marking them as SPAM then, and go straight to just deleting them.
Again, thank you for taking the time, and your answer. All the best to you,

In reply to: Should I not delete Spam?Hi, Samuel, thank you for the quick response.
So, what you’re saying is, I am just wasting my time in doing the extra step of marking SPAM as such in WP, because, on its own, WP is doing absolutely nothing in recording the information, and does nothing other or more than just simply deleting the SPAM does… again, outside of me doing the extra, meaningless click of marking the SPAM as SPAM?

In reply to: Most recent PHP version?Hi, Dion –
Yeah, I guess I am just unfamiliar with version vernacular ?? I was reading 5.2.4 as if it was 5.2.4(0), wherein it would be greater than 5.2.17… as opposed to how it is to be read as 5.2.(0)4, where it would naturally be the lesser than 5.2.17 … at least how I am concluding it ??
Any, or either, way – I am just glad that I am more updated than I thought I wasn’t, and that I am able to have WP’s latest version… that’s all that matters to me! ??
Thanks again for taking the time to explain it to me, as well as others who might be as uneducated on such matters as myself, Dion.
All the best to you,

In reply to: Default permalinks not workingI think I may have discovered the problem –
On my website’s settings, I thought I had, but turned out I didn’t, have ‘index.php’ included as an directory index along with ‘index.html’.
So, with the ‘index.php’ applied, I went back to my WP admin page, and gave it the default permalinks litmus test, and for the first time since I initially downloaded WP at the end of April, default permalinks worked, and not only that, but the Calendar and Archives Widgets functioned and pulled up previous month’s entries. Woo-hoo! ?? [Fists and arms extended straight up in jubilation]
Then, I went back to the custom permalinks that I want to instead use –
/%monthnum%/%day%/%year%/%postname%/
And then the Calendar and Archives Widgets again failed to work and instead brought up the –
Not Found
Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help.Argh! ?? So what is the problem now?!
I even made the permalink so it began with the month-day-year, then postname, as WP itself says –
Starting Permalinks with %postname% is strongly not recommended for performance reasons.
Personally, I would just like for the permalink to just be the postname, but I am fine with having the post’s date before the postname – if it works!
So, what would be causing the Calendar and Archives to not be working now with that permalink structure, but work with the default permalinks?
Does something need to be modified in my .htaccess file? :
AddHandler phpini-cgi .php Action phpini-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-custom-ini.cgi # BEGIN WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END WordPress

In reply to: I'm unable to drag widgets to the sidebar…I’m sorry, alitomr, I obviously completely missed you saying that even those options, for some reason do not work for you.
I’m sorry I’m not much help then, as I am at a loss also as to why those wouldn’t be working for you.
I would suggest maybe checking the browsers preferences, perhaps maybe you need to check them to enable JavaScript, and/or Java… maybe that’s what makes those things work.

In reply to: I'm unable to drag widgets to the sidebar…I don’t know if this will do it or not (I am a newbie) but, in the top right hand corner, it has a tab saying ‘Screen Options’, when you click on that, it drops down, and has, I am guessing has – ‘Enable accessibility mode’, click on that, and see if the ability to ‘Add’ and ‘Edit’ appears for you.
When I click on that ‘Screen Options’ tab, it says ‘Disable accessibility mode’ for me, my thinking because I can see ‘Add’ & ‘Edit’ abilities with each widget… so, that is why I am guessing, and hoping, that it will say “Enable accessibility mode” for you, and perhaps will give you then the option to then ‘Add’ & ‘Edit’.
I hope it works.

In reply to: I'm unable to drag widgets to the sidebar…While you are in your wp-admin page, in your sidebar along the left side of the page, go down to ‘Appearance’ > ‘Widgets’, on the Widgets page, in either the ‘Available Widgets’ section at the top of the page, or, in the ‘Inactive Widgets’ section at the bottom of the page, by clicking on either the ‘Add’ (Available Widgets), or the ‘Edit’ (Inactive Widgets), both are on the right hand side of each widget.
When you do that, you are taken to the edit page of that widget, and from there, you can choose the Widget Area that you want to place it in, and it’s position (if you have more than one already in that Area).
What, and where, your particular theme’s Primary, Secondary, etc., Widget Areas are located within it, you’ll have to find out for yourself, and the layout you have chosen within that theme, i.e., ‘sidebar-content’, or ‘sidebar-content-sidebar’, etc.

In reply to: Default permalinks not workingCan images be posted in these forums? I don’t see a way to do so…
Anyway, I was thinking and was wondering if I really didn’t upload the WP files to my root directory like I thought, and took a couple of screenshots of my FTP editor to show you, since it would make it easier to show you visually, than my, I am sure failing attempt, to explain it textually here…
Here, I just created a test post, and included the screenshot images in there, asking what it is I am asking, and wondering if I may still have the WP files in the wrong location –

In reply to: Visual Editor not working on 3.1.2I was having this same issue this morning after a reinstall of WP. I found this forum post from a year ago that helped in clearing it up for me –

I did what MacarioJames suggested there last, and now all the Visual Editor items appear once again.
I hope it works for you too. All the best to you,

In reply to: Calendar Widget not pulling up AprilThank you very much for the links, esmi… Looks like this will have to wait until my next day off, when I’ll have the time to sit and concentrate on all that stuff, and figure it out.
Thank you again. Have a good day, and all the best to you.
