In reply to: All is well with the world…until I look at the side bar. Thanks! Minimal and simple, I admit, but much like single-cell organisms at the beginning of evolution, I will work from basic to complex arrangements. Your help was invaluable. Thank you for taking the time!

In reply to: Header repeating vertically down comments page. ???Thanks for the reply!
I did that, and while it’s a much better path for linking to the header image (thanks for the tip there), I still have the same problem when it comes to the comment page: https://www.mpalmerdesign.com/blog2/?p=1#respond
The image still keeps tiling down the page. Example: https://www.mpalmerdesign.com/misc./repeatingimagesincomments.png

In reply to: All is well with the world…until I look at the side bar.Just wanted to give an update on this post by saying thanks to everyone who responded; I’m marking this entry as “resolved”.
My new effort can be seen here: https://www.mpalmerdesign.com/blog2
Of course, the W3C validator find errors with it. I’m a little confused by that, seeing as how this code has been strictly generated by WordPress. I am learning to weigh what it reports as “need to fix” vs. “I’ll live with that.”
Otherwise, creating the blog strictly via css has been fun so far, and getting it to where I need, tweak by tweak.
Again, thanks all.

In reply to: All is well with the world…until I look at the side bar. You’re words make plenty of sense, actually. I picked up a tutorial online that divided the wordpress elements into cells on an html page in order for a wordpress blog to be integrated into an existing site’s look and feel. Here’s the tutorial:
I was wondering what the folks here have to say about it.
It works (somewhat), but what you’re saying sounds like a much better plan, of course, if it’s possible to get the CSS to match the layout of a current website’s look and feel. I’m entirely new to this stuff, so it’s all an interesting, if not often confusing and challenging adventure.

In reply to: All is well with the world…until I look at the side bar.Still wondering if anyone could perhaps give a little more hands-on detail as to why the side bar may not be looking quite right?

I promise to go away shortly after. ??

In reply to: WP-Admin ErrorNever hurts to dump or fix the MySQL database and / or reinstall WordPress (keeping backups of your customized theme and supporting files to insert back in later, of course).
Log in to your web host’s control panel and locate the panel that controls the MySQL databases. From there you can usually enter phpMyAdmin to eliminate WordPress-installed tables within databases, create new databases, database admin users, and so on. Since you have had this blog running for some time (and you no doubt have content in the database), I would suggest being careful about what you trash, if the database contents contain actual posts.
I bet that if you can retain (back up) your customized theme, reset the host’s MySQL database, reinstall WordPress and reload your theme, that will fix the problem. Of course, there may be a less “sledgehammer” way around this, too. I’m new here!

In reply to: All is well with the world…until I look at the side bar. Thanks! The validator is handy, and does have me rather busy, though at the same time, I notice it finds problems with just about any website you check (www.remarpro.com excluded, of course)!
I did take out a lot of the errors so far, and got the footer back. Still not so sure what to do about the look of the side bar…I should probably get some sleep.

In reply to: WP-Admin ErrorI had a similar problem in this regard, and the culprit was a bad MySQL database. I rebuilt the tables and it was an instant fix. There was another time I was installing a basic WordPress blog on a client’s website (who uses iPower) and the reliability of the log-in / interface was buggy; turned out they were doing maintenance on the server’s databases, and this was affecting performance consistency (until they were done).
Be sure you haven’t moved the WordPress folder directories around on FTP after having installed WordPress; that causes problems, too.
