I’ve pretty much given up on this and hope that the copyright watermarks will be difficult to remove. I know these can be, but if I can make it difficult and possibly not worth the time, then that’s something at least to protect the images.

Thanks to everyone for your input and suggestions. Perhaps I might try the flash file feature some time in the future.

    Thanks, Tom and Glangleri.

I thought it might be next to impossible at worst and cumbersome at best.

Some sites have been able to protect their images, like on IMDb (The Internet Movie Database) when people post photos, so I knew there was a way. When I’m feeling brave — and don’t have a job to do — I might venture down the path that Tom described using Flash or QT.

Of course, if anyone else might have an idea, please post it. I’d very much appreciate it.

    Thanks,
    Jeannie

I posted this in another thread. It won’t help now that some people are already having problems, but it might help those who might be upgrading.

I wonder if the problem is due to the way the upgrade was done. I went from 2.3.2 directly to 2.5.1 using the very tedious long method, which required me to manually delete and move files around. I hated it but I wanted to make sure that nothing went wrong, even if I did have to spend 2 hours doing the upgrade.

For those who are not able to upload your images, did you do the quick 3-step upgrade or, rather, the long way?

So far, I haven’t had any problems with my test posts and image uploads using the tediously long method at upgrading. I’m waiting to see if the other authors of my site will encounter any problems when they do their posts and image uploads. Problems may or may not show up then, but right now, things seem to be all right.

I have found the actual problem.

The bug is with WP-dTree 3.3.2. If I have “open to selection” checked under CATEGORIES in the WP-dTree settings, all the categories disappear. Deselecting that option brought back all the categories.

I discovered this after I deleted the plugin and reinstalled a fresh copy and the problem was duplicated when I started to make my personal settings.

    Kalessin,

Thank so much for your help. (And sorry for the delay in responding — I was out of town.)

The problem automatically resolved itself after my host server did two separate upgrades. The first upgrade was followed the problem I reported and then after the second upgrade, the problem resolved. I had called the host server about this but they didn’t think they had done anything, although they did modify some kind of php file in the upgrade. I don’t know if these are all coincidences or not.

However, I will do as you’ve instructed since you’ve seen the corruption.

    Much appreciation,
    Jeannie

    Marc,

Deleting lines 532-535 in the widgets.php file worked beautifully for me.

    Thank you very much!

tinyMCE is the default text editor for WP and is already a part of it, so you don’t need a plugin.

People are actually trying not to use tinyMCE because of the problem with paragraph line breaks.

I assume you’ve probably used this by now since I just stumbled on this and you posted 3 months ago. I hope everything works out for you with tinyMCE

The hack worked for me, too, but now the shortcut tags menu is gone and I no longer have the ability to format text or the page. So, I decided to put the deleted 2 lines of code back into the page. But the missing menu still does not return, even when I have “Visual” turned on my profile.

I am getting so aggravated with WP right now. I tried FCKedit in lieu of TinyMCE, but it has a big problem with uploading images and is just as frustrating when it comes to being able to manage images.

I’d rather go back to TinyMCE with the hack but I do need the menu bars, because this for the guess bloggers who will be inserting images.

If someone could help me with this, I would be really greatful.

    Thanks.

    Sorry, correction:

I used the RIGHT INDENT tag function.

I just started a site using WP 2.3.2 and have been encountering the same problem. I thought I was doing something wrong, until I read about “change permissions” and tried to do just that in the “themes” directory. It did not work.

The semi-solution that I have been applying is to use the RIGHT BLOCK QUOTE. In the visual field, before I save, I write as I normally would with the paragraphs in place. Then, I block quote each paragraph. This technique creates paragraphs, but you sacrifice a little writing space to the left margin.

Also, to maintain spacing in between paragraphs, I have to also apply RIGHT BLOCK QUOTE.

This work around is a tedious work-around, but my only option. Now that I know about FCKEdit, I’ll try this plugin. Thanks for posting it.
