If I understand you correctly, you can add an additional user w/admin priveledges but a different name and then you will be able to select the other name when you want to.

I see you figured this out apparently. Do you mind sharing how? I need to get author and the permalink link on my client’s pages and can’t figure out how.

    Thanks,
    MC

I would just like to be sure I’m understanding this correctly before I start pulling out hanks of hair …

Is this correct … even though I set sub-pages under my main pages, WP will not display the sub-pages unless I myself add a menu that does this? (I tried it, I do not get any sub-pages.)

I don’t need anything as detailed as what 101Phil posted. I just need something that will display main pages w/one level of subbies under each main link. I’d like to do the same w/categories possibly.

    Thanks,
    MC

    Hello,

I am having the same problem – my categories throw 404 pages. I’m guessing it’s the perma links as I’m pretty sure I added 3 categories before setting the permalinks OR I set them once or twice, switching back to the default in between before getting them to work. Chalk it up to being brand new to WP and standing at the beginning of the learning experience.

I’d be willing to reset them to default again, but in the mean time I’ve added a number of pages and posts. What I would like to know is, if I reset to default, what happens to the existing posts and pages when I set them back to my permalink choice? Aren’t they all going to then be dead links like the categories are now?

One more question, when resetting them back to permalinks, must I use the same permalink choice as I used before resetting to default?

I am using these instructions for my permalinks:

    https://www.emilyrobbins.com/how-to-blog/how-to-configure-wordpress-to-create-search-engine-friendly-urls-for-permalinks-242.htm

To go along w/this I had to use the copy/paste method regarding the .htaccess file for the permalinks as I apparently did not have the .htaccess file chmod’d correctly before doing this. I later found instructions for this but still need to actually do it.

    Thank you for your help.

Ok, I think I may have found an answer. It looks like in my case anyway that hitting the ENTER key twice does put the P tags in. However, it just doesn’t appear that way. If you play with your P tags in your css file giving the P tag some top and bottom padding, you do then see the paragraphs. This so far is working for me anyway.

I too, have this same problem. I read somewhere here to hit the ENTER key twice after the text you want to become a paragraph, but I do that and I still get no paragraphs, just one huge blob of text.

I had this problem before I installed TinyMCE and I still have it afterwards.

    Your help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Hi Toolman,

I think this may be what you’re looking for. Go into your Settings –> Reading and the top section should be what you’re looking for.

Sorry, I don’t understand. My client would have no idea what to do w/all of this. Do you want my email address?

Can you maybe do this? Have one include with your widget(s) and another one that does not. Call the appropriate sidebar to the page as needed? Something like this:

    sidebar.php (no widget)

sidebar2.php or sidebarW.php (so you know it’s got a widget)

    Deb

When I mouseover your widget it appears it’s as though the space allowed for it is like triple the width of the actual image showing on the page.

I’m new to WP and have not gotten to the point of even finding out what a Widget for WP is so I don’t know if it’s a Widget’s thing or if it’s your css or the template or why it’s doing this but that’s what I’m seeing. I’m not at my working desk to check it in the Firefox WebDev bar where I could see more info but you might want to check that out.

    Hi clearedtruth,

I don’t know what your page is supposed to look like but viewing it in IE7 it looks absolutely fine to me. I don’t see anything out of alignment.

What browser do you use and what version is it? Are you using the templates as they are or are you editing the css to suit your design?

    Deb

Being new to WP I may be way off base here on what you’re referring to but I read somewhere (couldn’t tell you where) that in order to make paragraphs instead of break tags you need to hit the enter key twice after a paragraph and that will force WP to paragraph instead of br tag things. Is this what you’re talking about?

I was just coming here to post. There seems to be an easier way to fix this as it seems I have. I deleted all my template files, re-uploaded fresh ones and re-chmod the new ones and all seems well so far.

Yeah, it’s obvious and I said you could say so <g>. I deserve it.

Just thought I’d add that yes, I *now* know I should *not* have used the home.php instructions as I’m using version 2.5. I also forgot to mention the version in my post. So, now I just need to please know how to fix this. If you feel the need to voice an opinion on my stupidity, go right ahead, but you can bet you won’t be able to beat me up as hard as I am beating myself up right now.

Sorry, I just realized I put this in the wrong topic category. Doesn’t loke like I can edit, delete or move it either. My apologies.

PS: I just now found the EDIT link.
